See, what Squeek wants is for somebody to make a private MS server with mucho exp and mucho drops, kinda like kMS test. Since he thinks MS is SO BORING OMFG he would like to play a version with massive exp rates cuz that apparently makes the game more fun. I think it would make me get bored of the game faster, but meh, that's just me. I do think it'd be nice to have a 3rd-party test server with mucho exp so we could all test out various jobs, though. BUT NOBODY HAS MADE ONE AND PROLLY NEVER WILL! D=

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright. And I write the blog for their website. Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O |

No EB. I don't think this game is boring.
I absolutely know it is. I can't even stand loading up this game anymore as it just brings back traumatic times when I wasted away hours of my day hitting spacebar. FOR NO REASON. My character never got stronger. I couldn't do anything more as a result of leveling. So why bother. |

Maplestory = long grind with an inefficient chat system, and very little motivation/reward for putting in a good solid 15 hours. Oh look, the same animation I had before got stronger!
Honestly if you could still play decently while typing (nearly impossible with the keysetup and chat system imo) it would be much more fun. I have a 30 fighter and a mage in the 20s on khaini that I no longer play, along with a fighter on Scania before it got overcrowded. |

O_o I really didn't read any of the other pages in this topic, but from what I have seen on this page, you guys are talking about people not setting up a private server... well guess what, lets just say a group of hackers are planning to do just that soon. As of now, they realize it is illegal to CREATE it but completely legal to play on it, and they are going to try to make it as hacker exclusive as possible. As for the legal issues, they arent concerned as of now, because what gameguard does to EVERY player's computer is either illegal now or on the verge of being illegal even when being included in the TOC agreement. I'll try to keep you guys updated if I hear any more information about it. As for my characters, I re-quit my priest temporarily and am working on my hacked spearman. Curently level 58, I was going to get 60 today but my ISP is crappy and my internet connection is running ridiculously slow and every time I log on on any of my computers I nearly instantly get disconnected. Well anyway, that is about all I have to say for now, if anyone is interested I will find the information about what gameguard does to your computer/system files. O_o It is honestly ridiculous the kind of stuff it changes WITHOUT changing it back even if you uninstall MapleStory.

Ok.
Give me a minute or two and I will find the post and edit this with it. There you, that should do for now. ^_^ Hi all I'm starting this post so we can all try to understand how game guard really work. This is what i found so far in my researches It all started whit this. Quote:
GameGuard: Main features: * Malicious code diagnosis and blocking * Blocks Auto-mouse and Macro program * Blocks access and manipulation attempts to the game client * Self protection of security module * Detects Speed hack * Optimized CPU occupancy rate Code: maplestory.exe starts gameguard.des starts nProtect GameGuard Launcher is trying to change your network settings by modifying the file: WINDRVDIR\etc\hosts gameguard.des accesses the internet (to check for updates and patches) gamemon.des starts nProtect Game Monitor (gamemon.des) is trying to communicate with C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE by opening its process maplestory.exe accesses the internet (to start the game). More detailed info about game guard. nProtect Gameguard is a well known anti-cheater software. Simply said it uses rootkit technology. However, its functionality requires this approach. Its goal is to protect the game from all kind of cheater attack. This includes protection against manipulation with Gameguard's and game's processes. nProtect uses rootkit technology to make working with these processes unpleasant. It hides processes and protects them against access of other applications. But its protection is not limited by process protection. Since it is used to protect online game clients it relies on the Internet connection with the Gameguard server. It can be used by admins to capture screenshots from player's machines. It also scans running process for "known patterns", so it behaves just like anti-spyware programs to identify known cheater programs. This is why it works with other processes on your system. For instance, one of the things gameguard does is inject a driver into all of your running processes (dump_wmmic.sys or so I've been told by some security products), it also terminates system.exe and shuts down your computer when it detects a "possible hacking threat" e.g, hex editors and the like, it also loads a driver in the windows kernel messing up your task manager (or anything similar like task manager plus) and creates fake processIDs for the game process.. It writes and reads directly to your physical memory undermining most of your security products... the list goes on. Gameguard takes complete control over your computer and limits your access to your own computer, loads a bunch of temporary files (and more are used every time you run the game and doesn't delete them afterwards nor tells you where they are)! here is a log file from process guard 3.200 that shows what happens wen you start a game protected by gameguard. PS: i add my Physical memory locked to prevent eventual Damage of hardware. in normal circumstances the word "blocked" is replaced with "Allowed". Quote:
FAQ: What is a kernel-mode driver?: Put simply, under Windows NT-based systems (including Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003) a kernel-mode device driver is a 32-bit modular component that runs at a privileged level (known as Ring 0 to those familiar with Intel hardware) on the computer's CPU. As such, drivers run as trusted components of the kernel, virtually becoming a part of the operating system itself. more info! Ring 0??? whats that? A Pentium microprocessor has four privilege levels, also known as rings, that control such things as memory access and access to certain sensitive CPU instructions (such as those related to security). Every thread executes at one of these privilege levels. Ring 0 is the most privileged level, with complete access to all memory and CPU instructions. Ring 3 is the least privileged level. When a thread is running in Ring 0, it is said to be in kernel mode. When a thread is running in Ring 3, it is said to be in user mode. more info!

I found a +1 pet speed scroll this morning. I think it's trash. I didn't do anything with it yet.

Pet scrolls aren't that rare, but most people buy speed and jump pet scrolls.

So basically what you're telling me Oni, is that there's a possibility that my computer kept restarting itself everytime I turned it on was because the game guard found a "known pattern" and shut off my computer to protect the game, because my younger brother plays MS 16 hours a day???

Tonberry~
MOST LIKELY, that is not the reason your computer gets restarted, usually Gameguard will only restart your computer if you are messing with the programs memory. The main point I was trying to make by posting that is that not only does Gameguard prevent some hacking tools from being used, but it also modifies system files, hides processes, and can shut down system.exe. Though in the TOC it DOES say that by accepting them you accept Gameguard's ability to stop hackers AT ALL COSTS (not exact words mind you) it is still illegal for them to use these measures to some extent. We will have to wait and see, but if Gameguard keeps updating as fast and drastically as they are now, they may be involved in a lawsuit before we know it. (Maybe [doubtfully] they will go out of business <3!) I miss my Sader~

I want that. It pisses me off. It seems to go on a game I play about a month after I play it...And I don't think MSGlobal had it at the time of Beta(I could be wrong).

Actually, I've been having a problem with my computer restarting.
If others have logged in to the computer at the same time as me, the computer restarts in the amount of time it takes me to log in. However, if I log in and start MS and close it, then they log in after that, then I come back and they're still logged in and I run MS then, there is no problem.

I can only run MS once per boot up. If I close it, I have to open it again quickly or else it does something to my antivirus (shuts it down) and then I go to play and it restarts my computer, then I can play again =\
