we are NOT putting "stepmania" in the title anywhere, this much I know for sure

I also don't like the idea of using "community", despite me supporting this as a community pack. couple of reasons: this get the name mixed up with the thousands of other "community" packs out there and will be ignored by a good amount of people on release because of the name

using the word "quality" is like saying HEY EVERYONE THIS PACK IS GOOD and it's sort of obnoxious

I still don't yet understand what the problem with the dark chancellors name is. even secret societies eventually get new members, and old members retire. and if there's any sort of negative connotation to the pack, I still don't see it

You do know the CKBMPs are among the most downloaded packs on SMO because of the name and that it has "Community" in the title right

Given there's a somewhat strict judging pannel enforcing a certain sort of quality for the pack, I don't think promoting the fact that the files will be pretty good is a bad idea.

Dark chancellors pack was a known "elitist" pack yet lots of people in our skill level speak highly of it because of its strict requirements.

something like Stepmania Masters or something generic of the sort would imply it's for experienced players and maybe a standard for the quality of simfiles.

Stepmania isn't dying, there are 5 projects going on at all times and plenty of people playing SMO. There isn't as much activity as 8 years ago, but there are plenty of people playing.

I do think I want to change the name to something new, because I'm going to do multiple packs with this name. At work overnight last night I thought of the idea of calling the packs phases. Maybe even having the names display a bit of the timeline we've seen for this game. This pack being "______ Phase I -insert subtitle here-". Using the word phases also opens up the possibility of themed packs in the future.

Possible names would be:

Keyboardsmash Phase I: -subtitle here- (KSP1/KSPI)
Phase I: -subtitle here- (just call it phase itself, having no abbreviation)
Other suggestions?

I even know what I'm going to do for the next installment of this series, and it could even start immediately after this pack is finished and released.

Next pack will allow one or two (probably one) submission per person and will be a simfile creating contest. I'm thinking of allowing a submission for every person in the pack (no accepting or rejecting, if a person has only submitted one file, but they are subject to get notes and reviews and would be required to do fixes if necessary.) Or judging could be that we would only let a certain percentage of what the judges think are the best files go into the final release (say, the best 50% make it to the pack). Allowing every possible submission into the pack would make the finished result be somewhat bad (like Keys of Flames was in 2005, which was also the last time we did a simfile contest pack, I think). I would still want the finished product to be a good pack.

Once released, the entire community gets a time period to participate and rate/rank the files in the pack based on guidelines that I'd explain when it is time. 1st - 3rd place people may be subject to prizes based on if donations are possible or if I care enough to actually pay for something myself

It is what I've called this game for years. It's a bit of a joke on what we honestly do to our keyboards (I've gone through numerous keyboards over the years I've played)
