I never worked out fasted while on IF because I can't, and it worked wonderfully for me. The net effect of working out while fasted should be negligible. I mean, assuming your dietary intake is set, the net energy balance is the same either way. The only difference is that in one situation, you're burning more fat while working out instead of at rest. And I don't really think it makes any difference. Quote:
Increased cortisol will influence the deposition of fat especially in the abdominal area, and chronic exposure to stress can lead to fat redistribution and further allocation to the abdominal area. Fat in that area especially increases your risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Re: The Fitness Thread
I've been taught to never stretch until something hurts, or else you're actually going to make it sorer and will not build your flexibility nearly as fast. Also to hold stretches for min 30 seconds. From professional dance teachers.

For the people who might be curious about what I'm actually attempting to accomplish. I do different stretches than those, the ones I've been doing are a bit more brutal. |

Re: The Fitness Thread
So I am curious, SCWolf -- once you get to your current body composition, are you basically working out to maintain or are you constantly aiming at cutting/bulking/etc?

When my muscles are sore, stretching feels really nice. Up to a point. Rather like a massage. You want one just deep enough to not be painful. |

Yeah my wrist is all good now
I'm pushing to my natural potential, Rubix. Once there, I'll maintain as I can. That'll be a few years though.

Re: The Fitness Thread
Everyone has a surge when they go from nothing to hard work, then they kind of taper off. It'll take a long time to reach your "maximum" potential, if its even possible, naturally. Even if you have the genetics of a superhero.

Re: The Fitness Thread
What gyms do you guys use?
I am considering 24-Hr, but may hit up Planet Fitness (although word has it it lacks a squat rack, so maybe not) Also checked out Mid-City Gym (supposedly a place where Arnold used to train) but holycrap it's like a dungeon lmfao |

Re: The Fitness Thread
Planet Fatness is absolutely hated by most people in the bodybuilding community.
They did a series of commercials mocking the "bigger" guys, and they have lunk alarms where if you drop a weight or make a noise too loudly, theyll set it off and kick you out...they also have free pizza on mondays, which seems like a gimmick to keep people coming back because they eat the pizza and get fatter... I havent checked out 24-hour, but I work out at Metroflex (a dungeon like you put it). What I would tell you is to look at the clientele at the gyms. Do you want to look like the guys at 24 hour fitness? The guys at the Planet Fatness, or the guys at the Mid-City gym? I'm a firm believer that what you surround yourself with is what you'll end up looking like. Plus, if you're working out in a dungeon with a lot of people doing heavy shit, itll inspire the hell out of you! |

Re: The Fitness Thread
The Mid-City gym guys looked like they meant business -- but they honestly looked pretty damn hardcore compared to me. Definitely felt more like a training spot than a mere workout spot. Not sure if I'd fit in there, haha.
I haven't visited PF yet but based on that... sounds pretty weaksauce. |

Re: The Fitness Thread
i use to have a membership at 24h. depending on the location you go to it could be either really great or really gay. the ones that i went to were great and some peeps even gave me tips when they noticed i was doing workouts wrong which was cool.

Re: The Fitness Thread
Yeah I am gonna check out the 24 hr spot -- although $60/month is pretty lamesauce. But if it has everything necessary, might be worth it. Equinox over here is retardedly overpriced lmfao
