In Michigan, we say "pop" too.
However, there are certain things that are universally "soda". Cream soda, specifically comes to mind. You'd never hear anyone say "cream pop". That's just stupid. Go away.

You mean it's the appropriate name for a carbonated, caffeinated beverage.
I'm stuck in idiot Texas where they say "Coke". |

I'm stuck in the normal NE where we say "Soda" because it's soda.

I say pop as well as everyone else around my area. To me, soda sounds stupid rofl. Why say soda when you could say a one syllable word that's easier and takes less effort to say.
P.S. I prefer the taste of Pepsi over Coke. Sue me. |

you're right, lets convert all two-syllable words into silly-sounding one-syllable words in order to save time and conserve energy
![]() of course "silly-sounding" is subjective, i'm just trying to start something lolz

The first time I heard the word soda was in an Archie comic, and I didn't know that the word was so widespread.

A colloquialism I'm still getting used to is people in MA call a water fountain a "bubbler."
What's up with that?

This is true, and same goes for A&W Cream Soda. Specifically A&W; every other brand is an abomination, especially Jones Cream Soda.

If you don't like bubbler is Mass, you're probably not going to like Jimmies either.

I say this in every pop thread:
The word "pop" comes from Detroit Michigan, or more specifically, Faygo. It used to come in some kind of bottle and the noise the bottle would make when it opened sounded like a little "pop"ping noise. Thus you have the word pop. And anyways, Surge and Faygo are the only pop's good enough for meeee ![]() I still have a 12 pack of surge ![]() |

In Canada, we say "pop" everywhere. We also call Soda Water as Club Soda. Not too sure about Tonic Water, though...I think Tonic Water is a different thing from Soda Water.
Oh, and I'm drinking a root beer at the moment. Just thought I'd let that out. |

I am allergic to soda. =( The fizz makes me throw up every time. I have only had soda 2 times in my life.
1. I found out I couldn't have it this time. 2. I found out I was still allergic. =( |
