in addition to more than likely having transcodes (i didn't know how to check at the time but now i do), i don't have a dedicated headphone amp (it's on my sound card) and only have HD555s which isn't even mid range according to this criteria

There probably is a difference in sound but this conversation just boils down to people who care about that and people who don't.
