Weren't there some pretty serious riots and incidents during the 2010 Winter Olympics? I have the feeling that Vancouver is going to be disregarded as a choice for global sporting events in the future.

Don't get me wrong though - I know that these individuals hardly represent the Canadian population. I would be taking the same stance as you guys if this were occurring in Boston or wherever else in the United States. I've been to Vancouver and it really was a lovely place by my observations.

Also, I think every sport has their extremely passionate fans. England (and probably most of Europe) with their soccer, Canadians and hockey, Americans and football and baseball, to name a few stereotypical ones.

As for the Olympics, I know there were a lot of protests on, but I'm not aware of the extent of damage, if any.
Guaranteed though, if the States had scored, and not Crosby, this would be the second such riot in 2 years. Only it'd be cross-country. Not just in Vancouver.

I see the Olympics has a huge boost to Vancouver's rep. Everyone saw Vancouver as a warm place with friendly folk, as well as patriotic, but accepting.
This riot, in my opinion, cancels all of the positive out. It's like taking the opinions from '09 and before.

Also, this was to be expected. '94 showed us that much as well.



But there is one thing. Zag had it right when he said the "fans" were rioting. The true fans were the ones waving their flags, towels, and honking their horns chating Go, Canucks, Go with minutes left in the game. We know it's just a game, and there's always next season.

but golf isn't the sport that defines a country like Canada
like T-Force said, there's a sport in each country that the people are much more highly passionate about

In addition, golf is the sort of sport that the more (docile) elderly would enjoy, not younger people who tend to watch hockey, football, and other team sports. The atmosphere is different and incomparable.

@T-Force: I don't know if this event cancelled out all the good publicity from the Olympics, but it sure took a beating. Btw, the protests during the Olympics were smaller and easier to control; extent of damage was minimal.
