so go read a different one FFR may have always used it but that doesn't mean it can't be changed, I think you're missing that point. |

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
Well, the raw scoring system is already planned for the new TP system which has been coompleted for months, but never worked into the site. Implementing the new TP system should be priority #1. It also offers the opportunity for newer players to earn TP sooner in their FFR experience, which may be motivation to stick to it.
We want raw TP! When do we want it? This year! |

I'm down for anything as long as it is related to raw scoring.

Can't wait to see the new TP's implemented, especially if they are going to be raw score (although FFR would have to save your best raw score for this to even be feasible). I guess that raw score recording is going to be worked into the engine anyway, might as well go all the way with it and make leader boards raw scoring as well!

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
Id be interested to get some admin input into the status of ffr scoring.
is there debates going on within admin? or have they decided on way or another? What kind of hurdles are there to implement raw scoring, etc... Anything you can tell us?

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
I've already mentioned this but a key problem in changing score recording to raw score-based has to do with the limited memory the server has available (~80 GB only iirc). I presume recording all scores in this new way will eat up a lot of memory. I don't think most staff members are against the idea of raw scoring, but it's also not my place to tell Synth to upgrade the server size.

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
Why such a stupidly small harddrive? I'll mail you a terabyte.
Edit: Actually I have 2 identical 250gb drives that I could give away. Assuming you would want some kind of raid setup. Start up some kind of fundraising and I'll definitely donate if it helps upgrade the server in order to make some progress towards this. Last edited by Izzy; 09-17-2012 at 10:27 AM.. |

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
Has synth even logged in during the last year? (@bmah). Last time I looked at his page, he'd been away for more than a year.

That is a question you'd have to ask Velo or someone who would know the mechanics of the site. I wouldn't know how easy it is (or even if it is preferable) to delete all current scores that are recorded through the current scoring system. |

by memory, you mean hdd space? Any ideas how much memory we'd be needing to make the switch? I'm sure people (and some have already mentioned this) would have stuff they'd be able to send off to synth or ?sprite (i forget who actually has the server) if physical hardware is limiting this change.

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
Yes, the HDD has a capacity of about 80 GB. How much memory is required for the switch? Once again, I'll reiterate that I don't know the technical details that characterize this site.
So I think it's clear what people want. The next step would be to convince the higher-ups to get the appropriate HDD space necessary to make the change. I've also never mentioned the amount of work required to make the change either...that I don't know, but you have to take that into consideration as well with a group of staff that are entirely volunteers. |

Re: Combo Scoring Discussion
I would really like some acknowledgement that raw scoring will be replaced with combo scoring in the future. Obviously this could be a much more complex process than I imagine, but I'm not asking for this to be done immediately. Just some sort of loose mention that it will be worked on and implemented when there is ample time to do so.
