Oh hey, and, in the meantime, tell me what you thought of the tournament!

Re: Trumpet63’s “Divisionless” Tournament R7
Personally from having experience with tournaments, the idea was good but there isn't an effective way to incorporate a divisionless tournament without redefining "division" in itself.
I wish there was more donations to offer more incentive to players, but it is what it is. I skimmed through song selections and personally, I would avoid longer duration songs just because imo they are not worth trying more than 5 times. Especially a song like Herbie.

I played herbie once.
Then again I only needed to play it once.

Re: Trumpet63’s “Divisionless” Tournament R7
Great tourney! Loved almost every part of it. Although there was one flaw I didn't really like. The fact that the higher level songs were aimed directly at higher division players, which gave them higher points. So it meant that from that start, players in D6 and upwards were bound to be at the top of the leaderboards. Had all rounds been scored equally, it would've given lower division players a chance at being in the top 10. The 'Divisionless' title made me think that anyone would have a shot at winning. Just some constructive criticism.
But seeing as I almost grabbed Oni in the last round, I definitely think I've improved thanks to this tourney Would be great to see you host another one, you seemed to keep on top of things pretty well.

Re: Trumpet63’s “Divisionless” Tournament R7
The level gap between songs that would be for D7 or in this case, anyone who was in the last tier is from 91-96, where most tournaments start around 86-87 for the final tier/D7

Re: Trumpet63’s “Divisionless” Tournament R7
I really enjoyed pushing myself to keep up with Rushy and FFR Pro and I feel like I've improved a lot of my weaknesses as a result of this tournament.
The song choices were enjoyable and the formula (in the end) seemed to accurately portray the skill levels of the remaining participants. It was fresh and innovative. Kudos for your efforts~ Congrats Foxfire for the win and great job on second rushy. Last edited by Mourningfall; 03-4-2015 at 01:31 AM.. |

I also didn't mind the song choices for the rounds, though even if I did you don't exactly have a plethora of files to choose from in the 90's range. I will agree with Zenith however that particularly long files can affect user desire to replay them for improvements (I also only played Herbie once). Anyway I appreciate all of the effort that went into creating and managing this event, and thank you very much for the fun I had!

Re: Trumpet63’s “Divisionless” Tournament R7
Thought the concept of divisionless play was cool. Unfortunately, it's pretty clear that higher divisions have an advantage over the lower divisions since they can play the harder songs on the list.
At least you have the opportunity to step up and play a harder song than the one that's at your skill range, or if you're raging to that song, play the easier song and possibly get a nice rating from it. That being said, there should be a division factor in the formula so that everyone has a chance to win the entire thing. For example if you're D7 and you play the D6 song, it should affect your rating negatively by a certain margin and vise versa for D5 players playing the D6 song. Last but not least, I wish this tournament was funded more. It was a good concept, but I'd feel bad for anyone using under 200k as their prize pot. I know I'm not the right person to say that considering I don't donate to tournaments, but that's just how I feel about it. Nicely ran tourney overall, and I hope to see this again soon enough.

Re: Trumpet63’s “Divisionless” Tournament R7
Woooo! Lot's of transfers, not so many credits though. Let me know if I missed anything.
Also stay tuned, in a day or so I plan on adding everyone's skill rating and looking at divisions on the spreadsheet. I'll post once I've done that. Thank you so much for the feedback!

That aside; PA scoring instead of AAA is refreshing for once since I can play D60 songs and not feel bad about it.
