                      Token Challenge

Let's take a break from FFR and write a little bit. Write me a story about anything using 10 song names in the story (no more, no less.) I will have someone come over and read all the stories, and his 5 favorite ones will win a copy of the new Highway Highway DESTINY card!

                      Here are the rules.
-It must be at least 2 full paragraphs. Don't ask me how many sentences are in a paragraph! If you're really that curious, Google that question.
-Use proper grammar! If English is not your first language, try your best.
-Only the first 10 songs used will count (since those song names will be considered used.)
-You can swear as much as you'd like (because that makes things better right?)
-Each used song must be bolded.
-That being said, you must use default forum text with everything else.
-Last but not least, write in English please!

Let's see how much imagination you guys have!

Once upon a time, in a distant land known only as the ascension to heaven, there lived a god among men. His name is
not important but this is his story.

Growing up in Clocktown provided many challenges for any up and coming child and our hero was not the first to be targeted, but he was one of few who rose up to fight for what is right. Clocktown was the first city in the world to invent clocks and became known for its ability to keep time unlike any other. The city's mayor, Torvus Clockwork, was widely known for being crazed about finding a cure or ability that would grant him the power of immortality. Using his authority he often had the clock makers kidnapped and violently questioned to learn their secrets of time keeping. After all, they knew how to control time better than anyone else. Our hero's parents were among the chosen. There was hardly a struggle as resistance was known to only make the event more painful. Hiding in a small wardrobe our hero looked out from the cracks with tears in his eyes knowing that he was helpless to stop the attackers. From that day he vowed to his parents and to himself that he would have his revenge.

After being orphaned at a young age, our hero was raised by an elderly couple who, despite the fear of brutality, kept up with the tradition of clock making. Always adventurous and curious, our hero drew upon the knowledge of all those he knew to prepare himself for the coming battle. Thus, this young child had grown into a young adult whose knowledge of time and its properties rivaled anything the mayor might have learned during his reign. His ending song for all time would be written soon enough.

After saying his goodbyes to his foster parents our hero made his way through the city avoiding any patrols that would surely be suspicious of someone roaming around so freely. The mayor's wealth could be said to be unfairly distributed since he lived in a massive stone mansion that overlooked the rest of the town. Eyes on high. Approaching the walls ever so silently, our hero began to look for a way in. A crack, a hidden door, a tunnel. Any weakness that he might be able to exploit. In his focused efforts, he never heard the footsteps behind him. Everything went black.

He finally awoke, dimly at first, but then coming to full attention as he tried to stifle his growing panic. Bars. Surrounded by cold iron bars. He tried yelling for help but this was no place where help would come. Sounds off in the distance could be heard echoing through the corridor. Someone was approaching. A tall burly man with muscles hard as steel led a short squat man who could hardly be described as attractive. The mayor. "Hello, my boy. We've been expecting you for years. Won't you join us where we can ask you.. some questions?" After unlocking the gate, the tall man roughly unshackled our hero and turned with the mayor to exit the cells. Our hero had no choice but to follow.

Ascending a rather large tower, the small windows gave a view of the entire town. People could be seen coming and going from their homes and workplaces. It's no wonder they knew he was coming. Opening a small door, the mayor gestured our hero into the room. Blank white walls adorned all four corners. No windows, no decorations. The only thing in the room was a white book neatly placed on a small pedestal in the very center. "Do you know what this is?" the mayor hissed. After a brief silence he answered his own question. "This is a book written by the very first time keepers of this city. They knew very much. But what is written leaves much to be desired. For you see, I will obtain immortality and someone like you, a clock maker, is going to help me do it. Many others have tried but I suspect none of their blood was as pure as yours. You are going to offer your blood to the heavens and run through the stream of time to bring back what I need."

Silent and unmoving, our hero stood in the room and stared at the book. He had heard the whispers and stories but never truly believed it existed. Being wrenched forward harshly by the wrist drew him out of his thoughts. The mayor dragged him over to the book and held his hand above the pages. Deftly he drew a razor-sharp knife from his belt and held it against our hero's palm. Hissing with a grin he asked, "Are you ready, boy?" and drew the knife across. Like bloody tears a scarlet stream dripped onto the pages of the book. The force of light drove the mayor backwards and when the blinding glare finally subsided, the mayor stood alone in a room with nothing but a bloodied book.

It felt like a lifetime. Floating on a stream of seconds where everything was bright yet dark, quiet yet loud, fast yet slow. With a rush, our hero finally landed on his feet in a foreign land of crystal. As far as the eye could see was a flat plane of shimmering splendor. Light blues and pinks glittered and scattered light about. A beautiful storm of crystal wind wandered across the ground. It was a truly inhuman place. Turning to look around, there was one object. A large crystalline statue with no distinguishable form. It began to speak in a sweet yet deep voice. "Welcome traveler. I am the arcanum guardian. What do you seek from this place?" Our hero told his story from beginning to end and the statue seemed to acknowledge his words as truth. "Well," the statue spoke, "if this mayor seeks immortality, he shall be granted it. But not in the way he thinks. Unfortunately, the only way back to that world is for you to accept a similar fate." After pondering his options, our hero finally accepted the terms. Nothing would stop him from avenging all the people the mayor had used over the years. Before him a crystal scepter appeared. Dark blue and red, it contrasted with the rest of this world. It possessed the ability and knowledge of all the time keepers that ever existed and would ever exist. Unsure of himself he touched his fingers to the grip and another bright light flashed and suddenly our hero was rushing back through the stream of time. The same feeling of euphoria overcame him.

Back in the white tower, the mayor slowly approached the book to see what his deed had wrought. The captured prisoners had never vanished before when sacrificing blood. Something truly remarkable must have happened. Our hero began to materialize out of the air and the mayor jumped back in fright. Something definitely had happened and it was his doing. Our hero collapsed from the effort of traveling twice through dimensions and the scepter skittered across the floor to the mayor's feet. He had succeeded. The scepter was written about in the white book but no information was really known about it; other than it was immensely powerful. After picking up the scepter, the book began to flip pages and glow sending a whirlwind around the room that stripped the paint from the walls. Finally the dust had settled and in the book there was a new symbol that had never been there before. The symbol showed the staff being used to control time by using its power on another person. Conveniently enough, another person was at hand, unconscious on the floor. The mayor, blissfully excited at his victory, touched the scepter to our hero's body and in an instant all of time and space disappeared before him.

Time works in any direction and forces act in opposite directions. The mayor had received his wish. His immortality would grant him an eternal struggle in the backward void of time. All the hardships of the universe would strip away his soul for he could never die. Being thrown in the opposite direction of time, our hero remained in the place named ascension to heaven. You could never reach the end of time for time was infinite. He had succeeded, even if it cost him his mortal life to drift for eternity.

The town had lost another young man to the mayor's evil wishes, but would they always be indebted to our hero for ending the struggle and allowing life to live on.

I haven't written this much in over five years since school ended. Also stupid notepad formatted it all retarded and added spaces between every line for some reason. What a hassle.
