It's been proven impossible I believe. There's some glitch in the fast strumming section that makes it impossible to FC.
I downloaded 3s and 7s last night. It's pretty enjoyable all around. Blows the GH3 chart out of the water (though there is a missing note or two in the second solo grrrrrr)

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
I already saw it, but thanks. I read Kotaku and Joystiq a hell of a lot more often than you think.
Confirmed that the Wii Guitar Hero III guitar won't work with Rock Band. So I have no reason to have Guitar Hero III now. No DLC, no Stereo, no more fun. Out it goes. Still, $170? Not biting. Especially since it's the gimped PS2 version and all the **** is white. Even if one of the 5 surprise songs is Still Alive, I won't care. It's not worth $170. Make it $125 or cheaper and I'll go for it. Last edited by Squeek; 03-24-2008 at 05:18 PM.. |

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
Yeah because Nintendo makes the decisions for third-party developers.
This is all on Harmonix and EA. Clearly third-party developers have been given all the resources necessary to make online work since Guitar Hero III, Trauma Center, and Elebits all have Nintendo Wi-Fi enabled content, among many others. Last edited by Squeek; 03-24-2008 at 08:37 PM.. |

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
Actually no it's Nintendo's fault that there's not going to be any DLC. They've made their console completely immune to it. I mean honestly, 512mb hard drive? I mean, if it was worth pursuing, EA definitely would have pursued a way to make it work (read: "free money"), but the console basically mauls any developers who try to make their games work with the internet. SSBB was proof of that.

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
Le sigh.
On the Xbox 360, if you had a Core, you had to buy a Hard Drive to make downloads possible, right? On the Wii, is it so hard to get an SD card? Songs aren't 300MB. Maybe 30. We can still get plenty. Hell, VIDEO REPLAYS in Brawl take up 1 Block of storage. I have 7,000 blocks left. I mean personally I'm not affected since I think DLC is a massive waste of money on an already overly-expensive game, but that's just me. I have yet to see DLC that's worthy of a purchase from a 360/PS3 game. Any game. Map packs? Are you kidding me? I have to pay more for MAPS?! Last edited by Squeek; 03-25-2008 at 12:14 PM.. |

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
Why wouldn't you pay more for added content that was developed after the game launch? Why on earth would you expect that to be free when expansion packs still cost money, and all they do is add new scenarios and maps to existing games?

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
Why would I pay for an expansion pack, either? I mean, unless I really, really loved the game, there's no reason to. And I haven't really, really loved a game in a long time. And none of the games I really, really love would ever get an expansion because the development team wouldn't **** over its customers.
Up until the days of Xbox Live, PC games had free updates. We had cute little websites for custom maps, custom missions, custom character models, etc. It was fun! It even got support from the development team for official releases to improve upon the game! Everything was free! I've started to see DLC that basically unlocks things that already exist in the game. And that's just pathetic. You pay $60 for your games and $50 a year for your XBL service, and their way of repaying you is making you shell out even more money for content you deserve. Isn't that nice of them? Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
Well, I don't pay anything for my online gaming, as I have a PS3. And I don't buy map packs either. I do, however, by the PSN updates for Rockband, simply because more songs = more gameplay and I'm not worried about my finances at the present.
PC games still have fan made maps and free content. The delivery system is just different for consoles, so I probably shouldn't have brought up PC expansion packs in the first place. That being said, I have no problem paying for extra content - so long as it is, you know, extra content. Not unlocking stuff that exists in game or any BS like that. That's why I won't get Gran Turismo 5. It's expensive, and in addition, you have to purchase cars and tracks online... Which boggles my mind, because they're are allegedly making up the bulk of the gameplay.

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
The reason why Rock Band DLC is so great is that it has such a wide range of possible audiences. Look at the last 3 releases. 2 weeks ago we got modern metal from Serj Tankian, Black Tide, and some other band (I didn't like the song so I didn't buy it). I was able to buy two great songs for $2 (the same price as buying them as singles on iTunes or whatever). Then last week, we got three thrash songs, a completely different style of music and arguably some of the hardest songs in the game. Today, we get six master recordings of Boston. Three completely different styles of music in three weeks.
The best thing is is that each of these songs is completely optional. If you don't like Boston, then you are only forced to play one of their songs. If you love Boston, for a reasonable price you can play seven songs. Don't like thrash? don't buy the pack. This way, players who enjoy more "niche" genres of music still get their favorite music represented in rock Band while people who don't want a certain band in the game don't have to deal with them.

Also, the hard drive on a 360 can be 20GB or 120GB. SD cards go up to what, 4? And the hilarious part is you'd be paying as much as you would for a 20GB 360 drive. Quote:
If you don't want any more content, then you have the option to, you know, not buy more content. Don't expect developers to work for nothing, though.

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
I'm talking about content that should be free, not totally new content like Shivering Isles/Knights of the Nine for Oblivion. That's worthwhile content since the original game was complete on its own without all of that. It's not like the expansion unlocked this island.
Although... there were those retarded DLCs early on. Horse Armor? The back room of the Imperial City Mage Guild? That content was in the game. The "DLC" was merely a patch to let you access it all. Also, like I said before, I highly doubt a 1GB SD card (which I paid $3 for) is insufficient to hold every DLC currently out for Rock Band. Oh, also, I have 6 1GB SD cards ($18). According to Amazon, the 20GB hard drive is $90. Oops, you lose again. Anyway, even though I probably won't buy Rock Band because it'll never enter my price range, I'm still thankful to Harmonix for making Green Grass and High Tides popular. I would've never even heard the song without Rock Band, and now it's one of my favorite songs. But there's no way I'm gonna sample every DLC they have available just to find the one gem like GGAHT. I know I won't find it. Last edited by Squeek; 03-25-2008 at 03:52 PM.. |

I want to make sure I'm not hearing that the 70+ additional songs offered for DLC should have already been included on the game at release.

Re: RockBand. More Awesome.
No, they shouldn't.
I'm just not interested in any of them. They're ridiculously overpriced and I'm amazed people are dropping so much money into them as if it's nothing. |
