Unfortunately, no. I was taught some grammar, but I think I learned more through self-teaching (when reading novels and writing essays).

This thread helps, too.

It's because, in the first scentence, since it is a double prepostion, the second one is an adverb (I'm pretty sure).
Ah...the beauty of forgetting all you learned in 6th Grade English over the summer.

MLA style for a list after colons is 2 spaces after the colon.

I am definitely glad someone is teaching people grammar. I hate it when people have websites, then they don't even spell words right! I also hate it on AIM when my friends don't capitilize and punctuate their sentences, it makes me so angry! I mean come on, we're going to be adults soon, we should at least learn the correct way to write a sentence.

Would it kill some people to use puncuation marks once in a while? Like on profile comments...

Apparently not, seeing the way some users post.

Even if you learn things in school, there's no guarantee that you're truly comprehending the meaning of the rules, or maybe you just didn't get it. When was the last time you took a final exam and got a 100%--indicating that you fully "learned" something from school?

Pass Elementary School English with an A.
Then you wouldn't need this.
SRSLY.
Except, there's one thing I have trouble with:

Lay, and lie.

They BOTH change form when going from the present to the past tense, but not necessarily when going from the past to the past perfect.

Present -> Past -> Past Perfect

(to recline) Lie -> Lay -> Lain

(to put down) Lay -> Laid -> Laid

I think I might show this to my old English/Social Studies teacher. She was horrible with punctuation, and called most of correct grammar wrong. Which screwed me up completely. Now a days, I find it hard to figure out whether or not my sentences are correct.

But then again, my school system sucks overall.

Thanks .

Can we get a section on what "versus" means, and how it's not a third-person conjugation of a verb?

I've heard too many "I'll verse you in this game" recently. If no one wants to do it, I will.
