Re: Anime North 2014 discussion/hype/planning thread
I think I'd rather pay $50 and share a room with 3-4. Guess that can be worked out when the time comes. Flight costs seem to be the bulk of it. I guess I could devote around $1000 to this experience so that leaves a few hundred of buying anime stuff.
How much do you guys usually spend on these events? |

I spent basically nothing outside of registration/transportation/hotel/food last year. oh and I bought a half-assed cosplay thing at the event site which was pricey lol, but that's neither here nor there. you can get away with spending little or you can splurge and spend a whole lot. |

Re: Anime North 2014 discussion/hype/planning thread
you know, after 4 years of going to this with you, we still haven't made a file irl
$45 on pass because I group register with 15+ people early <$60 for hotel room share (2 quad rooms split with 11~12 peeps all chipping in this year) ~$60 for food. if you bring some of your own stuff, like snacks and drinks, you save money here. whatever amount of money you're willing to splurge on merchandise. personally, I don't buy anything other than maybe cds, so I can make it through the weekend with <$100 (not including pass and hotel shares because those are things you should've already paid for before the con)

Re: Anime North 2014 discussion/hype/planning thread
Honestly if you've got your badge and room paid for you can get by at anime north with basically no money at all. There are water stations EVERYWHERE which you can use to hydrate yourself, and it's actually relatively easy to make all of your own meals in a hotel room. Merch will eat up a lot of your money, but eating out will eat up more and you won't leave with anything to show for it. If you do not bring any food at all, you need to buy ~6 meals for probably at least $10 each at the places in the area (other than Harveys or Subway?). If you want to save money my suggestion would be to try to get to a grocery store. bring a loaf of bread and some meat/cheese for sandwiches, a couple of cup ramen (there are usually kettles in the rooms for tea), and maybe some stuff that is easy to microwave, as well as snacks and drinks.
This might not apply so much to Izzy who is coming from far away, but people driving in could hit up a grocery store in Toronto before arriving at the hotel |

seems way earlier than last year. hope everyone got their stuff already! to anyone who didn't: I would probably look at the schedule and then choose between Friday and Saturday for a one-day pass. or actually, I guess getting two separate one-day passes wouldn't be too expensive. I don't think I would get all three haha. |

Re: Anime North 2014 discussion/hype/planning thread
I think a saturday pass would be good for peeps here that only want to go to the ffr/sm meetup, otherwise it's not really worth buying 2 passes tbh. you could also totally pull a wtfbrandon and go all weekend without a pass at all, so long as you stay away from the convention center and doubletree where people check badges pretty much, lol

Re: Anime North 2014 discussion/hype/planning thread
for sure, there are plenty of people that pre-reg for the weekend pass, only to refund it later due to unexpected shit happening where they can't attend. and those refunded passes go towards at-the-door registration, although they're super limited in number and are usually gone by friday.

Re: Anime North 2014 discussion/hype/planning thread
So heres my plans for Anime North. The same as every year:
I like taking friday to myself to look at the convention, possibly meet up with people for dinner, because on saturday, Im prolly gunna hang around with the group all day and follow them. I enjoy everyones company. Then Dinner and drinking? smoking? As for the hotel, let me know whats up because, well, as far as im concerned, im sleeping on the floor of someones hotel room. Yes. This is happening (again). I live 20 mins from the convention so getting a hotel will never happen. HHHHYYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE BIIIIIITCCCCCHHHHHEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ |
