Re: Free grammar lessons!
Talking a language and writing it down on paper is completely different. When you talk, you talk. You don't say "el oh el", nor do you say other things. When you are typing there is no need to type in shorthand, or to mess up words. You are writing something which millions of people can read, and re-read again and again, thus it should be more thoughtfully put together. So don't compare speaking with typing / writing.

Two of those "words" you had for me weren't actually words, so I disregarded them anyway. In fact, I pretty much disregarded everything you've said, as have most of the members on this site. |

Re: Free grammar lessons!
The people who come into this thread and post English as a decapitated art-form are original. They really know how to get at you, Squeek.
Also, I just noticed something. Quote:

It really doesn't get to me like it used to.
I do, however, continue to ignore their posts once I determine that they aren't worth much of anything. I still hold that anyone who cannot take the time to write things out on the Internet doesn't really have anything important to say. |

Re: Free grammar lessons!
Only thing I'll never get over is how Europeans use "ou" in words like "humour" and "colour".

Re: Free grammar lessons!
This isn't a "room" and you're not in chat. You're on a forum, you know, a place where you post and wait and see how people respond. You make threads and discuss things in the correct thread etc.
This "thread" is about grammar. About learning it. About reading the entire first post so that you may improve yourself. |

Re: Free grammar lessons!

1. Capital "Y" for "yes". 2. Capital "I" for "i". 3. "Was common" - add a comma after to make it sound correct. 4. Full stop after "sentences". 5. Capital "I" for "i". 6. End final sentence with ".". Now, with all of that out of the way I'll address your sentence. Yes, grammar is part of english language which you should be learning throughout your school years. English Literature does indeed focus on grammar slightly but is more focused on sentence structure, form, comparisions, and other stylistic forms of writing and how to interpret English. It's still useful for this thread to exist and it is really needed in a place such as this forum in order to try to educate people into making proper posts that are actually legible. |
