My Guitars, in order of preference...

Taylor 812 CE
Seagull 12-string
BC Rich Warlock
Fender Stratocaster
Epiphone Dot Special
Squier Stagemaster

Anyway, I was at the guitar store the other day and I found an incredibly godly combination. An American made Fender Telecaster through the reissued Blues DeVille. That combination sounded gorgeous. Honestly, I even plugged a $3000 PRS into that amp, and it didn't sound as good as the Tele. Pure magic.

EDIT: lol@the guy above me's tone

Seriously, dude, do something about that. And tune your guitar next time, k?

I have 8 or 9 guitars but the only one I worship is my JEM... got some good use out of my Tele and my Ibanez RG, though.

EDIT:

And dear god, BC Rich is a NONO.

You mean Satch's ORIGINAL chromeboy? Christ, I wish i did too

Seeing Satriani in concert extremely up close is one of my life's greatest experiences so far, and to be fair, I've experienced some amazing things and gone some pretty cool places (I'm well traveled).
That JEM looks kinda like a Bad Horsie JEM.. I'd like one of those, definitely, but my 777WH is just undefeatable.

..and yeah, BC Rich guitars are great for... bonfires.

EDIT: I'm a ****ing retard, that is a Bad Horsie JEM.

Guys, I put in all custom electronics on my Rich, so it sounds absolutely gorgeous. It's really not a Rich, just a Rich body.

Why waste that kind of money on a Rich? Besides, the body makes a huge difference in tonality. Thus the reason why some guitars cost so much.

My Ibanez has a high-quality neck and alder body. If it weren't for the body, it wouldn't matter what my pickups could do.

Research it a bit; you'll find I'm right.

I'd agree with you if it was an accoustic. However, body material in an electric doesn't do **** to the tone. The wood doesn't carry the sound, like in an accoustic. It's all about the pickups picking up disturbances in the magnetic field.

You're telling me the body doesn't affect the tone?

WRONG.

You've got a bit to learn.

According to this, it doesn't make much of a difference in the tone, going by solely what comes out of the amp. Because I am in a band with wickedawesomeful, I think there may be a chance that she might tend to turn her amp up louder than you do, allowing you to hear more of the reverberations in the guitar itself.

The construction of the guitar affects the vibrations of the string.

Otherwise there wouldn't be such a huge deal about woods of a guitar.

And also, why does a mahogany solid-body guitar put out a rich, warm, better sustain sound, while an alder body is better for lead?

And don't tell me it's the amp volume; I happen to think Steve Vai doesn't play quiet. Neither does Korn, as I understand it.

Haha okay I permanently stole the guitar out of my sister's room, I can play much more now.

My D string sounds off and there's nothing I can do to fix it. Bummer.

Sounds off?

If you mean it's all twangy and nasty, just replace the strings, or if you don't know how to do it, go to a shop and they'll charge you a bit to change them out for you. That is, if the guitar isn't absolutely crap, in which case it probably won't make a difference.

Hehe it's a 32 year old guitar =D There are even newspaper excerpts with song lyrics and the letters for the chords from 1970+ in the case.

I don't know anything about the guitar except that it has "Conqueror" on it. Oh and it's acoustic.

It's really not that bad of a guitar.

My only concern is how much it would cost to get replacement strings.

A set of the best strings around is usually about $3 US.

Just get good acoustic strings, probably standard 9-42 gauge.

That guitar might be valuable if it's good quality, so treat it with care.

EDIT: Here's a good answer, well put, just for you, wicked:

"
In reality, you pluck a string, string produces something that isn't a sine wave, due to the exact construction of the string (there are loads of different sorts). Vibrations from the string resonate through the guitar, which resonate back to the string, and the exact composition of these tones depends on the shape, wood type, hollow-or-not-body, size of the guitar.

So, yes, the pickups are only picking up the vibrations of the string; but the vibrations of the strings are affected by the construction of the guitar."

Good point, Organism. I am just on a code of honor where I have to help defend my bandmates when someone corrects them on something musical.

I have no problem on coming to one's aid, but when I say something I mean it not as a criticism of one's character, so it's best to research it a bit. There's a reason guitars get so expensive and why so much effort is put into their workmanship.

The real reason why guitars get so expensive is that lower end models are mass produced in countries where they under pay their workers. While higher end models are hand made in USA and richer countries.

This is usually why companies own two brands. Example, ESP and LTD or Fender and Squier.

Or at least that's how I see it.

That's part of it, but then if the Mexican made Tele is $400, and the all american is about $1000, then why do Teles get to be far more expensive? Partly because they might be custom made, but mainly because of the particular brand of workmanship put into them, and their construction.

No JEM is cheaply produced in Mexico, I can assure you. And there are slightly cheaper JEMs than mine. My neck is better, and the wood is alder instead of basswood. That does factor in.

Sorry for my absence in the thread, been very busy these past few days.

But, OrganisM is right. On a guitar EVERYTHING comes into play in affecting the tone. Even the type of paint used makes a difference, because certain paints reverberate better than others. Everything is a factor, not just the pickups. If that were the case I'd have gone out and bought some $99 clearence guitar and stuck some Classic 57 pickups in it and gotten a nice Angus tone. Doesn't work that way unfortunately though.

And Organism, what sort of information did you have in mind in adding to the first post?
