No, Minds. The commercial features two girls, one of whom is basically a giant blob. It is meant to symbolize the lethargy with which she has been plagued since she started smoking pot. It's all IN THE COMMERCIAL.

I find that particularly disgusting, and even held a discussion about it today.
Since I started smoking pot regularly, I've been generally more content in every way and the world has been a more beautiful and colorful place. People don't become sad from weed.

Rai, if I seem discriminatory and closed-minded, you'll have to forgive me. You're a cool guy and all, but I think "pothead" and I see the girl who threatened to stab me if we had to walk down the aisle together at graduation.

So, really, if the commercials actually have their desired effect and prevent the creation of more girls-who-threaten-to-stab-Amanda, I support them. =)

There's only one time in my life a commercial has ever influenced me to buy something.

Back in September 1995, when Chrono Trigger came out, I saw a commercial for it. Well, the commercial was just about the coolest thing I had ever seen, so I begged my parents to buy the game for me. It worked.

Other than that, no, I can't say I've ever bought/been interested in something because of a commercial. The internet provides me with non-biased (for the most part) info on stuff I plan on buying nowadays.

I bought a Mr. Clean Magic Reach because I saw it on TV. Otherwise I wouldn't know it existed. I don't frequent the "cleaning supplies" aisle in Wal-Mart.

I did not say that I wasn't affected by advertisements. That would be dumb. As long as a I have a subconscious mind, I'm going to pick things out unawares.

I think marketing is a very practical and useful practice... when it's done by some honest means.

When people make advertisements that offer no reason for buying what they're selling, but just use lots of flashy graphics and omg this famous person uses it!!, they're only counting on manupulation. If you have a product that you think I would like, explain to me why and I might go and buy it from you. It's as simple as that.

I don't want to be told a thousand times to drink Coke until I do it.

If I like the stuff, I may buy more.

I find that I like a product more if its commercial is funny or otherwise very interesting, regardless of what it is.

Exactly. That girl was either violent in the first place or was on harder drugs. Pot does nothing to make people aggressive, but rather often even makes people more laid back.
People who are agressive/violent in the first place are more likely to do something illegal. Pot is illegal. For this reason, there are a lot of stupid violent people who smoke pot. Unfortunately, for this reason, pot is sometimes (extremely uneducatedly) blamed for the behavior of these people.

Ironically, if it wasn't illegal, most of these people would be less likely to do it.

Commercials are more there to inform you of a product rather than to convince you to buy it for some dumbass reason.

I like watching commercials occasionally if they're actually entertaining instead of "sup you should buy our product here's why", but i never actually buy something just because i saw it on tv.
