We don't have to use AIM at all but it's an option for those who want to use it. PMs work the same way. I'm generally online on AIM but hardly use it anyway so it's not like it matters. Its use isn't obligatory.

Also if you plan on eventually making a 'I'll be on AIM from 10 to 4 so come talk to me' post don't even bother playing TWG. Nobody cares and it doesn't make you look better or human and it generally shows yourself not interested enough to do anything yourself

I think that it would be good to let people sign up even without an AIM. Maybe give an alternate way to contact them, or give a warning that the only way would be through PM.

Who had the idea of making this be playable with AIM. It is here since the first game.

Having an account allows everyone to contact one another. It could be been messenger or Skype but it ended up being AIM. The service doesn't matter because it doesn't have to be used but it would suckered to not be involved in a discussion that could've changed the game for many just because someone didn't want to be on AIM. You don't have to use it. It's not a requirement. But it does help others access you quickly and directly.

If you want to limit private communication to PMs I'm okay with that too. But there's no reason for us to freak out over AIM use..

it will start shortly after it fills, and no it won't be near impossible, i've checked with some great players who ensure me that it's a balanced game
