feel free to take this to PM if you want me to explain it all, there's no place for it in this thread

(since you aren't bringing it up, feel free to research feminist standpoint epistemology)

Not feminism, but given what CBR had posted, I felt this fits the bill as well. If not, sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I was ridiculed in a club I participated in for having Christian faith. Being in a group that was largely atheist, I was frequently referred to as "bible thumper" and was discredited in anything I said that contradicted anything the atheist majority said simply for my beliefs. Rarely were the topics even related to religion. The condescension was very intense and was not only allowed by the teaching staff club sponsor, but even encouraged in subtle ways. Whenever I tried to point out that my religion had nothing to do with the topic on hand, the teacher chimed in that belief represented weakness of mind, and thus, me being a Christian meant my dissenting opinions were also a result of this weakness of mind. It led to my eventual quitting of the extracurricular activity because I couldn't focus on the real topics knowing my contributions were going to be shot down and criticized as a result of my faith.

To give an idea of how it still effects me, there is at least one person from that group that casually visited this forum 5 years ago. I'm afraid to give too many details/clues about what group it was and who all was involved because I can't handle the results of it getting back to that group right now, given all of the other stress I have in my life.

sorry but wait is the point of this to break down or uphold the doctrine of the women(s/'s?z/z/z) standpoint so to speak and its proposed dominance in feminist dialogues

your responses to devonin make me think it's the latter but if so why solicit submissions from not-women

i guess that's a false dichotomy but

not about just women, the class deals strictly with feminism, but the project is sort of an all-encompassing forum for inequalities of difference and how they have affected everyone in social spheres (examples can be seen on the website)

my response to devonin was saying that women's standpoint allows for a myriad view that the dominant social class would otherwise not fully understand and thus allows us to expose various forms of oppression and social injustice (or leads to refreshing perspectives in science or other things) -- not exactly relevant to the project, that's why i asked devonin to take his argument to PMs

I'm pretty sure I get it, but if the people in power don't take a stance for those who aren't (in this case women), then the people who aren't in power will make absolutely no advancement short of forcefully taking the power to themselves.
