like if you put 30 grams of weight on a membrane key, the key won't do anything, but if you put 30grams of weight on a red key, it will go down a bit but not enough to actuate? Last edited by Garquillex; 11-26-2012 at 06:33 PM.. |

Yeah I have the non 2013 BlackWidow ultimate which uses Cherry Blue MX switches. MA is good enough to quad stuff. Jacks I have no problem with since I can feel when I actually miss jacks as opposed to hoping I hit them with my old keyboards (not sure if anyone gets me lol).

Like all Cherry MX keyboards, you don't have to bottom out before the keyboard registers the keytap. It's weird at first, but you adapt to it quickly.
Blues have the loudest click when they are pressed down of all switch types. Amazing for MA and also great for speed. Personal favorite. Browns are not as loud and don't have a click as audible. This is the middle ground, great speed/accuracy and it doesn't drive your neighbors insane with the keytaps. Reds feel like you are typing on air. I couldn't get used to this keyboard, but for others is apparently godlike for speed. Blacks have similar traits and characteristics to hitler. Don't touch this abomination of a keyboard. Linear key presses *cringe* Buckling Spring Keyboard HUEHUEHUE so loud this keyboard will rupture your ear drums. But so satisfying~ 8) I would love a keyboard with 4 keys of each switch type, but I haven't found anywhere that makes custom keyboards to this extent. But what do I know? I love my scissor switch kensington <3 Last edited by PrawnSkunk; 11-26-2012 at 07:05 PM.. |

Well I was able to hit 430 bpm stream on my old Cherry MX Blue keyboard over a year ago so it's not as bad as people say it is
shamelessly showing off speed abilities on a blue switch kb D: Using a brown switch now though cause it's better for my playing style |

I have bought two different mech keyboards and let me just say a few things....
Blue is not for speed (for the average player) and they are very difficult to do fast jacks on. MA is good on them, but that's about it. I only know 1 player that is fast with blue switches and that's Eze. Brown will make you able to MA good as well, but it does allow you to play faster . Once you learn control, MA will not be a problem them. Usually when SM players buy a mech, they go brown. I highly recommend it, but that's just me after from switching from a blue keyboard to brown after a month or two of solid play. |

I was the first person to ever play sm on a QPAD kb hehu (they had prototypes/preview models at The Gathering before they were available for sale ) 8)
didn't buy one before august, adjusted to the kb instantly from my flat illuminated kb and got amazing scores like 30 min after i connected it (this was a blue switch qpad kb) |

The problem with buying a mech kb is only you personally know what type of player you are. People will excel on different switches from what I noticed.

He's claiming it's bad, but he also said kinda good things about reds witch are the same as blacks but lighter. Blacks are probably bad for SM/FFR due to being linear (no feedback until you press all the way down aka bottoming out) but I'm going to be getting a keyboard with black switches for gaming.

I don't understand half the fucking lingo in this thread.
But anyway, I find my Blackwidow was good for MA when i used it .. But I ended up going back to my Tarantula for speed and what not.

I don't know about you guys but i was able to jack really well with a blue switch and do speed files.
Although, I will admit that a brown switch make doing such things a tad easier. And for some reason, I never got used to red switches in terms of MA but for speed...it is god-like.

Is there reason to say that, say, Browns are objectively better than membrane?

well i have currently a black and it feels a bit weird, but the taps of a mechanical keyboard feel somewhat good, you have to put more effort than with a normal kb and the clicking sound is very loud, i don't use it for sm anymore but for 7k/6k is nice

Once again, probably the worst choice for SM/FFR though.

Blues go "click click click"
Browns go "clock clock clock" |

Based off the StepMania session I had with my new brown switch keyboard (CM Storm Quickfire Pro), I can definitely say that it's good for accuracy—it barely took any effort for me to completely re-adjust my timing to this keyboard when originally I played on a flat rubber dome.
I can't really say much about speed at the moment because I'm super rusty from not playing, but I'll say that pressing the keys during a stream is easy and effortless, which saves stamina due to the little resistance of the switches.
