I am an introvert though. I don't know why it works for me, but it does. Getting more active will help your depression too. Just do a bunch of shit to take your mind off of things for a while. But yeah if you want to talk to your friends, you probably should just force yourself to do so.

I know it's like pushing on a tough elastic band to force yourself to do anything with depression, but you just gotta push on it enough to make it break.

I'm pretty sure it isn't actually considered depression until it gets to that point. There is still varying degrees of being depressed, but until it starts affecting you and making every day life difficult it isn't considered a disorder.

Not saying that doesn't make it a problem though. You could probably solve the problem by being with your family and friends before it gets serious.

Awhile back I was seriously depressed for nearly 6 months for various reasons and it was affecting my school life and I really couldn't get any work done. I was really against the idea of actually being depressed and I figured that I could just shake it off or overcome it by being "stronger" emotionally or something. It seems it doesn't really work that way even if you try so I eventually went to the hospital and got diagnosed for it and put on some meds. I never noticed any difference in how I felt on them and they gave annoying side effects so I stopped taking them. Eventually I just talked to my family about it and after awhile I felt a little bit better just getting it out there.

I think you're lonely..not depressed. If you actually think you're depressed, I recommend you to see a professional. I highly doubt there is a doctor on ffr.

If you're just occupying your mind away from it, you're not addressing the problem, so the underlying issue still persists. The longer you neglect it the worse it's going to be. You need to be able to open up and talk to someone about it. While it won't help you directly deal with your emotions, it should at least take away the thought that you're alone in dealing with it.

To start, the threads not about me. But to appease you, to begin, all depression is serious, if you joke about it, you're ****ing trash. Also, you know nothing about me at all, so what ground do you have to say I've never dealt with it personally? Also, yes the length of time of the feelings does matter. In fact a psychiatrist can't diagnose you with having depression without the symptoms lasting over a period of time. (I'm feeling to lazy to grab either of my psych text books to quote a direct time, but if my memory is correct it's a bare minimum of two weeks or more.)

"Happy Pills" aren't a solution, they're another tool to beat around the issue or assist you in coping with your issue until you're at a time where they're no longer needed. Using them like a wheelchair for a fat person who's to lazy to walk is just moronic and worse for you than the condition you're supposed to use them to assist with.

Agreed! But when dealing with it I would suppose (depending on the approach) you may become less introverted in the process. Sometimes exposing yourself like that can actually really help you.

edit: just ****ing take your mind off it. Ignore it. It's hard to do, I know. I'd rather punch a moving train than try to ignore it, but if you can manage to ignore it for long enough, life usually takes care of the issue and you find yourself without the issue/random shitty feeling(s)

edit3000: yeah I think I understand what leo meant. There's nothing you can do to solve it, there's just ways to bide your time. For me it usually lets up after a while and I don't feel nearly as bad as before. Taking pills doesn't work though, I've tried them and people said I was like a zombie.

And you're right, I simply don't agree with you because you're thinking too ****ing hard on such a vague description on her depression. Maybe perhaps it's too personal for her to say? What makes you think she's going to just spill out something personal?

If you can simply "ignore" or "take your mind off" of depression, chances are you are okay. Depression is a disease. It requires medical assistance.

Depression is a real disorder.

If you're truly worried, GO TO A DOCTOR and get diagnosed.
Depression is not something you can just "decide" to fix overnight, the real disorder is caused by complex series of reasons, such as a fundamental hormonal imbalance.

The possibility is there that this is just someone being an attention whore, but why not take something like this seriously. The chance you could actually save someone's life is worth the chance of being trolled.

Depression isn't something you can merely rationalize your way out of. It's a real, serious mental disorder/disease with all sorts of complex factors fueling it. Even if you go out with a bunch of friends, or talk about your problems, or make more money, or resolve family issues, or accomplish certain goals -- depression can *still* nail you and you may not even fully understand why. Doing things that make you happy can be healthy, but it's only part of the equation.

If you're depressed, see a doctor who can help you get the meds/psychotherapy you need.
