Horizon is a fantastic file

I went back and made a list of the easier songs that really stuck out a lot to me and made me replay them all the time, much more than everything else

5 - Pita - It was so satisfying to hit the quick and odd notes

6 - Kung Fu Koalas - The change in the intensity of the song really helped pronounce the shift in what the notes were covering. Also, hitting the notes with that punchy percussion in the background made it feel really good. Hitting the rapid 8ths to the melody felt great.

7 - Geno's Forest F-Zero - The jumps at the end of the "bursts" of notes segmented this song up and made it feel great to try and hit the notes right without being overwhelming because of the breaks between

8 - Ride of the Black Rider - Easily one of the very best easy stepfiles made. The song and chart flow perfectly together and the sounds the notes go to are very pronounced and satisfying to play to

9 - Canon in WHEE - The song was basically destined to become a great stepfile. The variety kept the song changing around and all the notes fit with the music very well. The gallops especially helped the song stand out and gave me something to look forward to.

10 - Zelda Stormy - I'm not sure. It's just good.

11 - Policy in the Sky - The rapid notes and patterns just felt great to hit

I have no idea if this is any help to other prospecting steppers of easy files, but here it is

I smelled "allow simartists to exceed submission cap" from across the internet

Naturally, I approve of this thread

easy files don't need PR and Finding a Way is really well done without it anyway - what's there not to love about it, lol

I think we should get the same effect from a different direction. Widgitize/Tokenize bad harder songs. That way your levelrank difficulty spread looks more like the token songs spread, which imo is perfect. About even, with slightly more songs 40-60.

i've gotten a few friends casually into ffr, they've all progressed to playing things like old 7s and 8s by now. here's what i gather from their input/song selections:

-chipper songs are good. as said before highly technical PR-based slow as shit songs are both obnoxious in their subtle rhythmic complexities and boring as hell. beginners don't care about a song being 'understepped' (or even have a sense of that phenomenon so far as I can tell), they just wanna jam out the approximate rhythms to a dope ass tune.

-layering is bad. basically no novice player has a sense of layering, the ability to process multiple lines/rhythms/instruments being charted over one another in real time is like advanced arithmetic to them. unintuitive rhythmic passages or apparent inconsistency in jump usage and whatnot is just confusing and my buddy literally said "this level was REALLY sloppily made" over what looked (to me) like a perfectly layered chart. don't beat yourself up too bad over goddamn layering.

-PR is fine and probably even good however much i might still personally think it's kinda gay. definitely not NECESSARY because if its eschewed to any degree a novice player won't think twice on it (one friend has had mirror on for what i'm pretty sure has been the entirety of his ffr experience without noticing). but specifically scales and trills, like dore said about the GH charts, give a very expressive and immersive feeling. use them whenever applicable.

anyway thats all i got, probably own't actually contribute any because i'm reeeeally lazy but hope that helps some

Very true. From my experience, the only layering you can get away with has to be really simple like a snare drum or something else that provides noticeable impact. It can't just be two things going on at the same time, it has to be one thing putting extra emphasis on that other thing you're stepping.
