Isn't the hyper speed mod like cheating? I mean, I did it yesterday, I preferred it and it helped a lot but I'd like to play by the rules sorta.

What dyou guys think?

Speed mods aren't referred to as cheats though are they (In DDR or ITG), I mean, there in the options. Well, the may referred to as cheats but they're not justified allegations. Whereas in GHII you have to input a code at the title menu (That's known as a cheat 99% of the time).

Seth: There is also a "performance mode cheat" that is the equivalent of turning Stealth on. Would you consider that cheating too? Or how about the one that gives the audience monkey heads? That's called a "cheat" in the game too.

"Cheat" in video games = something unlocked via a button combination != always cheating to use it. "Cheat" is nothing more than a slang term that derives from the fact that in many games, such button combinations are often used to unlock extremely unfair things such as "god mode" or "skip level", although note that many games had "cheats" such as "commit suicide" or "fail level" that were still classified as "cheats".

Note that the Xbox 360 Live leaderboards for GH2 do NOT recognize use of the Hyper Speed cheat as cheating, and accept scores whether or not they're done with it on. If that's not as close to an official word from the devs that it's not cheating to use it, I don't know what is.

You have a point. However, Hyper Speed is a cheat that would help complete the game/do levels etc. As the scroll isn't that fast to miss stuff but fast enough to separate notes and make things less confusing. Those other cheats are just there for novelty. There just funny. Comparing the two are like comparing "God Mode" to a "change costume" cheat. The skin or costume doesn't change much to the gameplay whereas being invincible is changing things a lot. If you see what I mean.

Although I do use Hyper Speed sometimes as I like it that way TBH. I'm just thinking some people would call it a performance enhancing mod and "cheating" in the dictionary sense.

Some people do. We call them "idiots". Hyperspeed changes nothing about the nature of the game whatsoever, which is to simulate guitar play on a video game. It's as ridiculous as people calling a real guitarist a "cheater" for reading sheet music with notes that are more spaced out that usual. The fact that a code is what unlocks it is utterly meaningless.

^^^the end of the Hyperspeed debate. No gaming company (especially for a super-popular game like GH2) is sloppy enough to allow cheating in their own leaderboards, period. End of debate. Hyperspeed is not cheating. Before the 360 release this was an opinion, albeit a much more reasonable one than the alternative. Now it's essentially a fact.

I said what I said because the other day I was playing GHII over a mates house and I showed him the Hyper Speed and he went, "Is that a cheating?" and I went, "Umm, no...not rea.........wait...I dunno really" Lmao. That's why I was trying to get a solid pro hyper speed arguement.

all of your insane skills make me sad. im like 8 5-stars away from getting the log guitar, but I can't imagine ever 5-starring misirlou...

I guarantee you're overstrumming, which is making it seem harder.. It's not as fast as it seems at all, and the cutoff score for five stars is about 204k.

I just 5 starred it today, took me two days straight of whoring but I finally got it, with about 300 points above the cutoff score. With that I finally 5 starred every song in expert.

wait, do you mean you got the log (5* all career songs) or Guitar God (5* all songs, including Jordan and Six)?

Regarding cheats, they aren't put in for the sake of gamers, they're bug tests etc. Hyperspeed increases scroll rate but spaces the notes more so it's the same as playing on regular speed, if anything's it's a little more reaction based as your sees the note in hits it automatically rather than consciously.

Anyway, back on subject, hyperspeed was as close as testing the sync and accuracy of fret placement during gameplay as they could get.

Uh, no?

Maybe years ago this was true, but it isn't really anymore. They've got better ways of testing sync, and some cheats (performance mode?) clearly have nothing to do with bug testing, and are just in there as easter eggs.
