Re: Wtf @ the new token *mwahahahah*
I had a question I wanted to ask you guys, though:
Assuming that subscriptions are made to be more worthwhile (ie. more interesting content/features to be included), what would you think about discounts to certain customized FFR-brand items (like if an FFR-branded item/piece of equipment costs X amount of dollars, being a sub yields you a discount off the purchase price)? And by items/equipment I mean items to help supplement the FFR experience, be it keyboards with nice keys, sound equipment/speakers/headphones, etc. Last edited by QuadDamage; 08-7-2008 at 08:52 AM.. |

You don't need premium SMS, to my knowledge. Every text I got was plain old text. I don't have any internet/web/pic/etc. access on my phone and everything worked fine. I have Cingular by the way.

You don't need a credit card to sign up for paypal. Just create an account and connect your bank account to it, then it will activate.

Yeah I used Cingular -- everything came in Text Message format, and it was a very smooth and error-free process.

Re: Wtf @ the new token *mwahahahah*
Also, by the way..
To my knowledge..If we were to do this with other songs, albums, and offer other goodies like tokens along with the purchase, the selection would be pretty limited until we have complete and total permission or some sort of contract drawn up between the artist's album we're selling and the song to the token we're giving away (or whatever else may be). Don't forget that many artists on this site are under the impression that we're not gaining any revenue from their music being on our site; I'm sure Synth and SpookG are still really close friends and obviously have something worked up. Album + Song of the skill token are made by the same artist, thus, being much easier. Something like.. having a corn and beans album released for sale (assuming that we had spoken to him) and then giving away another token, let's say a Venetian Snares song, would be completely different. Most of the artists that do feature music on FFR and are actually a part of the community probably wouldn't mind something like this, to my knowledge, but once again, they too would need to confirm it with Synth/Jason/Mal/Staff. I know most of you do know this already, but for the people who don't and just start requesting -insert artist here- and -insert random token song here- and expect/in hopes of seeing it, I'd suggest first reading about these things. Onto other things, as for the idea itself, I think it's splendid. Sure, asking users on the site to pay for songs in which they've heard for years on this site or can just by the album elsewhere is and will be percieved as something "a-bit-extreme-" in some aspects, but I can totally dig where you're coming from. This opens up quite a few possibilities, such as creating "specific FFR albums" that are only available via a purchase like this. It's completely great for the artist because it's giving them more than just a way for music seekers to hear their music, but it's also creating a small source of revenue and opens up relations with other things in the future (and FFR as well) As for setting up the forms of payment, I would suggest it that we also have a gift option; if this whole thing actually ends up getting larger with more artists I can definitely see this end up being just like how subscriptions are currently. And of course you're going to end up getting the "Hey lulz I just downloaded the entire album off of -insert program/site/person" here. I can't believe you paid for this lulz" Eh, screw you. Actually take the time and realize that this isn't all about yourself and you're helping more than just your ears and wallets when doing this. I think I may be tl;dr'ing a tad bit now, time for some sleep. |

Re: Wtf @ the new token *mwahahahah*
i'll be reaching out to all of the in-house guys that i speak to... which is basically all of them. this is just the initial test to see how things go. we are looking to expand it to more artists, definitely.
and, from talking to them previously about selling music via FFR... well... the response was overwhelming. those guys are mostly college kids who are hurting for cash. any extra influx helps them greatly.
