The one time I AAA a song in a tourny. I'm so glad this pressure isn't on me!

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament - Round 3!
The one handed 16th jack into that jump in the D4 file was really unnecessary.

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament - Round 3!
Sorry to nitpick, but I find that "unnecessary" is the wrong word. "Abrasive" or even "stiff" would be better. From a stepper's perspective, "unnecessary" would imply that there's a right way and wrong way to step the file in that manner. There isn't.

Honorable mention to D1 for getting their cutoff to 9-0-0-0. It's the first round their cutoff is under 50 goods. o_O

p.s. the right way to step the file is the one that isn't fucking obnoxious and makes me not want to play the file ever again so yeah it's unnecessary pce

I'm not trying to make anyone mad, I'm saying it like it is. I hate when I make a file and people are like, "well its a good file but it's kind of stiff in places" What the fuck does that mean? Like oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a file? And in the end nobody learned anything because you were trying to be all polite and beat around the bush and instead you didn't even manage to communicate at all what was actually wrong with the file. I much prefer when people are direct, but acknowledge it's their own opinion. "I found this jack unnecessary." Perfect. I know who it is that feels that way, and exactly what they feel. None of this "stiff" bullshit. As long as you state it in such a way that shows you realize other people have different opinions (cough middie) then saying you flat out don't like something is fine. It helps the stepper learn, or at least understand the issues some people may have. So yeah I feel that 1hand anchor jack was straight up unnecessary. It's the only one in the file, sticks out like a sore thumb, and doesn't flow with the song at all- there's no unique sound at that point so the fact the pattern is so different is really jarring. Which is a shame because I like the JS and the jacks prior to that anchor are well-made.

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament - Round 3!
Fair enough. Realize though that your perception of "obnoxious" is really just an opinion, and in the end makes it a subjective manner. There is no right and wrong for stepping, but that certainly can be perceived as such on an individual level.
The purpose of my pointing out on that was mainly etiquette, not a matter of trying to describe a section of a song in a fuzzier way. If said stepper wants my suggestions on how I would've stepped it, then that's a different matter. You'll get my bluntness if you ask for it. But I don't do it outright. That's my form of consideration. Carry on. |

Re: 8th Official FFR Tournament - Round 3!
I would like to say that CBR did a good job making the file replayable, regardless of whether or not people enjoy it. Why? That left handed jack into the left handed jump is entirely doable, but is really difficult to do so. Yeah, the pattern is somewhat stiff but you know what, it's a challenging lower level file that I enjoy because it's not boring and linear, and actually has a few surprises too. bmah said it best:
