I've never read the entire guide before; it made me realize that my grammar could use some work. I feel smarter. Woo.

Rofl. That is too funny. When I was reading over the post I saw the mistakes also. To find that you replied to the post is even funnier. But that's really cool to have all this information for all those who don't already know it. But I'm off to take a shower now. Peace out. :]

I believe learning about grammar is fun, and I was quite thrilled when I saw this topic; obviously, I don't come to the forum often. Maybe the reason why nobody uses either dash in forums is because "Alt+1" (on the number pad) takes you back to the forum index. Well, it does for me, anyway.
After thinking about what to say, I realized that dashes are fairly useless in forums. En dashes can be replaced with "through", and em dashes only add more emphasis (on a side note, parentheses decrease the emphasis). Hyphens can add clarity, but what's the chance you'll end up using "remark" (to note) and "remark" (to mark again) in the same sentence? The latter can be hyphenated as "re-mark", but the former can not. There are some words that would look awkward without a hypen, though, i.e. "all-knowing". Plus, letters and numbers should be hyphenated when used as prefixes, i.e "T-shirt". As for semicolons, everyone should know how to use them correctly. I'm not sure if others have a problem spelling "necissarily", but I always have. I tend to avoid using "definitely", because I fear I will misspell it. I'm not sure if people do this, but some may accidentaly use "enthralled" when they mean "thrilled" (or maybe even the other way around). Something enthralling is captivating, and something thrilling is exciting. Thanks for listening; I hope I didn't bore the lot of you to death. |

Thanks for the lessons, Squeek. For 11 years my teachers couldn't even teach me this and you've finally done it. Congratulations. |

Heh, I said all that and forgot to answer my question! *hits self on head* Silly arrogant me!
Anyway, I was going to ask about punctuating the ends of lines in poems. What exactly would you do if a stanza mid-sentence? And would you use periods and commas at the end of lines like you would if the poem was written as a story? The way I distinguish between "who" and "whom" may help... It's easy to understand. Simply, if you can't replace "who" with "he", in a sentence, and still have it sound, then the correct word should be "whom". "Whom" is equivalent to "him". Who hit the ball? He hit the ball. Whom do you want to score? I want him to score. |

Poems ignore logic so nobody cares what punctuation you use.
If anyone asks just say it was inspiration. |

Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself, "Here is an opportunity for me to celebrate like never before, my own power, my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary."

Heheh... Thanks for the info, Squeek and Reaper.
I'm going to post a poem in the literature board... Now I'm going to bat anyone who tries to punctuate my poems... *whips out wooden baseball bat* I had to use this earlier. o-o |
