I got to play Brawl at a party last night (so these would be with respect to 4 player brawl):
-Pit is really good
-Lucas is good, better than Ness I think; side note: The momentum of the first jump is no longer cut short with an immediate up-air. Also, the second jump seems a little floatier.
-Marth is still good and his final smash is godly (especially with time-slower)
-Ike is slow yet powerful as said
-Metaknight is good but somewhat weak
-Wario is really fun to use and his final smash is hilarious
-Shiek is drastically weaker and no longer awesome (but good final smash)
-the Dragoon shows up really often and is amazing

I got 1600 with Marth on Home-run contest, but that's the only one I have tried so far, I imagine that number will increase when I actually take the time to work on it.

EDIT: New high 1702 with Toon Link.

Okay, here's the deal:

I'm playing in a Brawl tournament (open, free, roughly a hundred entrants) in four hours and I've never played Brawl.

I was pretty good at Melee with Fox, Jiggly, and Samus, but not quite tournament material.

What advice do y'all have for me?

If you were good with Samus stick with her. She's overall about the same. Zero suit Samus is also good to play with once you get the hang of her; her grab reach is fairly long and she's quite fast. Do a couple rounds practice with Zero Suit before you go and you should be fine.

Use Diddy and rape with bananas and dash attack. If they know what they are doing it won't work. OR use Zelda and just din fire and run when they come near you.

Fox was actually my main and my most competitive character. Is there any reason I should be picking Samus over him? I mean, I'm pretty good with Samus, but I feel that I could easily get hurt by faster characters.

Fox is going to play drastically different - he's a hell of a lot slower and a lot of his attacks work differently. The difference will throw you. Don't use Fox.

I'd agree to use Samus because she plays nearly the exact same, though she did get nerfed as far as power goes.

Ice Climbers are beast at home-run contests. Best score is around 2000 somewhere.

Samus is actually REALLY bad in brawl. Don't listen to that advice. Fox is still very good, but of course his style is much different. An easy combo character is diddy. I've been using lucas today and he is also pretty good, but without practicing with him a bit hes tough to use.

Edit: I saw that you used Jiggly. If you were any good in Brawl then you can use Jiggly in Brawl. Her physics are a bit different, but her style is the same.

Go with Jiggly because fewer people know how to deal with her than Fox.

Samus is worse than in Melee but ZSS is awesome. She's the new Shiek, but better.

If you want, you can start off as Zero Suit Samus by just holding Z after you select Samus until the map starts.

The thing about ZSS is that all of her moves leave her undefended. Very laggy moves. I wouldn't recommend using her without practice and mind games.

Wait, is the tournament even using unlocked characters? If they are, I'd go along with what chardish said and use jiggly.

What are the tournament rules, anyways?

Seriously?
I need to try that. xD

[Edit] Yeah it works. No wai!
You have to do it REALLY fast though.

[Edit 2] I don't think you can change back after you changed it once.
I'm using a GC controller btw.

I've only ever gotten this to work with the wiimote+nunchuck setup, though. It's incredibly annoying to try on the other ones (except maybe classic controller, I don't even have one of those).

EDIT: And it's annoying on the wiimote, too. I used it during training to switch from Samus to Zero Suit, but either you can't switch back, or it's harder than I thought.

EDIT2: I don't know if I'd recommend using Zero Suit unless you're good at using her whip to get you back to the stage, though.

I think that only works if you start as ZSS. If you start as Samus and use the Final Smash, I don't think you can change back until you get another final smash ball.

Jigglypuff is still awesome. I use the same style with her as i did in melee with even more advantages.
