![]() The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without these gases, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60ºF colder. Because of how they warm our world, these gases are referred to as greenhouse gases.
Have you ever seen a greenhouse? Most greenhouses look like a small glass house. Greenhouses are used to grow plants, especially in the winter. Greenhouses work by trapping heat from the sun. The glass panels of the greenhouse let in light but keep heat from escaping. This causes the greenhouse to heat up, much like the inside of a car parked in sunlight, and keeps the plants warm enough to live in the winter. The Earth’s atmosphere is all around us. It is the air that we breathe. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere behave much like the glass panes in a greenhouse. Sunlight enters the Earth's atmosphere, passing through the blanket of greenhouse gases. As it reaches the Earth's surface, land, water, and biosphere absorb the sunlight’s energy. Once absorbed, this energy is sent back into the atmosphere. Some of the energy passes back into space, but much of it remains trapped in the atmosphere by the greenhouse gases, causing our world to heat up. (D) The greenhouse effect is important. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would not be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The samurai were the warrior class in feudal Japan. Members of this caste ranged from the Shogun himself down to the lowliest foot-soldier. From the intense civil wars of the medieval era, through the 250 year-long peace of the Tokugawa Period (1600-1868), the samurai ruled Japan. Above the samurai class were the Emperor and his court. Below them were the farmers, craftsmen, and merchants. Japan had a rigid class system and there was very little movement between the classes. Strict rules on dress, weapons, transportation and other matters ensured that people always knew where they stood in the hierarchy. The samurai were trained in martial arts, especially archery and sword-fighting. They were the only men allowed to carry two swords. They lived by a code of honor known as bushido, the way of the warrior. This code promoted the qualities of honesty, courage, compassion, and above all, loyalty to one's lord. A samurai was expected to give his life in service to his lord. If he brought shame to himself or his clan, he was expected to commit suicide by seppuku, an honorable way to die The most famous story from this period is Chushingura, or The Tale of the 47 Ronin. Use the links to the left to read about the real incident and learn more about this popular story. Follow the links below to explore the world of the samurai. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Here is a basic walkthrough on how I made my own baybus. Well it's mainly just an LED lighted switch panel. I got most of my parts at Radio Shack, as you can see in the first pic below. The other two pics here are of my predrilled bay cover. I also had to flatten out a few parts in the back, with my trusty dremel clone ![]() I used a bastard file here to help clean my mess. I also Installed my LEDs and switches. Since my "blue" LEDs run @ (3.7v and .02 amps), I used a 470 ohm resistor per LED. I also soldered my primary wires(I used four instead of one to help make the wires more stable). Noctice that I did not use any heatshrink :\ It was a bit difficult to figure in all the splices, so I will go the Afrotech way and use brush on electrical tape ![]() This project enclosure came with a PC board, which was perfect for this mod. I drilled holes to make way for all the wires. After I ran the wires I soldered them to the PC board. I then soldered my "power-in" wires to the opposite side of the PC board (and yes that is the 12v line im soldering in the pic. The flash of the camera gave it the "red eye" look LOL). Then I use the regular electrical tape insulation method, and covered all my solder points and the metal cover for the enclosure. Finally I covered all my wire with conduit, and zip tied them together. Here is the finished product. A baybus switch panel for all my 12v accessories. The blue LEDs light up even if there is not anything hooked up to the switch. www.omfg-dude-wtf.com (Yanah: This thing looks sweet, I wish it were mine.) |
