Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
I think it's funny that three people now have mentioned liking Shard (Combat) as a warmup file.
I originally stepped the file to be the first song Staiain played at AGDQ and kind of designed it to be a warmup-style file so that Stai could ease into his AGDQ block. I am glad to see that it actually serves that purpose, and that people like it

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
Er, why exactly does The Valedictory Elegy have an edit difficulty?
I submitted those charts as Standard and Heavy, or at least I should have. Definitely weird as the only Edit chart in the pack, I would have much prefered heavy and oni or something Whatever, not a big deal, but I hope it's not a problem if I move Edit down to Oni when I re-release it in one of my packs haha EDIT- Yeah I checked, my submission had them as Standard and Heavy. I have no idea how one chart got into Edit lmao

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
Also, apparently one of my files somehow have gibberish lyrics in it. If you happen to see a .lrc file, just delete it. Otherwise it could distract or lag. idk how that even happened

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
I played the songs in this pack that I have WIPs or finished files for myself.
In most cases I was amazed at how someone else can make a perfectly legit, wonderful file that was completely different from how I stepped it! The layering in Streamworks is very different from my easy file - I chose to pretty much only follow the melody, so it was fun to play a more layered file for the song. I would have preferred PR jumps to the big orchestra hits rather than jumptrills though! Johnny C Bad was really good and honestly more fun than my file in most parts lmao There was only one 2312[13] 24th pattern that completely wrecked me. I wasn't a huge fan of fading in the song in the middle but then again I have tried and failed to cut this song nicely so I guess your solution is better than my having given up lol Overall, will definitely play again Silver Surfer BGMII has many more holds and much less actually stepping out the arpeggios compared to my version For this song I personally prefer a JS file rather than a jack-oriented file, but this interpretation is quite good for the song if you like jacks. MN's Black Rain steps a lot less of the rhythm guitar than I did. The chorus parts are a little easier as a result, but many other parts felt very similar. I prefer some of the solos in my file and some of the solos in MN's haha The only part I really didn't like was the jarring cut. You should have asked, I would gladly have given you an mp3 with the cut I made! Unlike the other four files, my Shovel Knight Main Theme file has literally the exact same layering as MN's with only a few PR variances up until the 24ths, which I did completely differently. It was freaky how similar the first parts are though, if you want MN I can send you my file so you can compare Special shoutouts to Porky Pink for stepping GaMetal... we have FFR permission for everything Johnny Atma makes, you should submit your Deoxys file! It was great, I loved that the stream patterns were hard but still felt fair because they matched with the song well. I think out of the dozen or so files I played tonight, this one was actually my favorite! Quote:
I can't get everything perfect in my 39 file packs, I can't imagine how hard it must have been to deal with more than four times that 0_o Pack is really great and I'll be playing it more over the next few weeks!

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
Heigo Tani. Someone who did songs for Sonic Adventure 2, Zone of the Enders, some Yu-Gi-Oh music for TV, and also some Bemani (only like 2-3 songs). He probably has a bigger profile than this tho.
Oh I see, just an honest mistake, especially considering the scope of this pack. If it's patched it should be all good. |

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
Random additional reviews because I can't sleep:
Jurassic Dope- If I'm not mistaken, the bassline is a descending tone, so it was strange to have it stepped as 5-note jacks. Maybe I was missing something. Either way, the rolls were fun (be aware that the split rolls were 10x harder than the nonsplit ones lol) and mega props for actual tasteful use of mines. Truth and Power - Love this style of music, so I had to play it. There were some flute accents that could have been added in without it being overdone, but besides that it was very enjoyable. Not much to say, just a solid file. Sunahara Plains - Holy shit that polyrhythm/minijack section is so much harder than the rest of the file 0_o Besides that section, there were some one hand trills and anchors in the JS that didn't seem to follow anything major and made those sections noticably harder than the rest of the JS. Wasn't sure what a few of the hands in the last section were going to either, maybe they're technically right but didn't feel entirely natural to me. Overall that difficulty spike section really kills this file for me. Temple - bruh Glad to see this file totally does the song justice! The polys were super fun to play, the 32nds at the end were a treat, and the layering and sync were all solid. If I had to nitpick, the right-hand transition at 43.532 (434 [34]44 4343) was pretty rough and could have been improved by moving the [34] to a [24] or making the 4343 trill afterwards something like 4242, and then adjusting the PR of the preceding melody 16th and the following yellow down arrow to accommodate those changes. So I think you'll have to settle for only getting 9.999/10 from me for this file :P Honestly I really look forward to playing the other Shnabubula files, and I hope you FFR-ize them so we can see them in FFR too! Hard Man's Theme - Whoa, this took me back. Feels very Zagh style. The staircase holds were really fun! The layering felt nice. There was one part with several down minijacks in a row that felt noticeably harder than the rest, and also one section with many jumps that was very split and I got lost in some 434343 stuff on the right hand, though both of these cases were more my fault than the file's haha I definitely enjoyed it. Frontier Brain - Yo this song is fire and I'm glad someone stepped this remix. Such awesome rhythmic variation throughout. The JS had some REALLY difficult one-handed patterns, not sure if that was intentional but it sure felt way harder than JS at this speed normally does. Not a huge fan of the mines, but they didn't really hurt the file that much either so I can give them a pass. This review probably sounds negative but I really liked the file - hard patterns included - and will definitely come back to it at some point. Colress Battle - That 43214341234 pattern in the 32nds near the end was totally unexpected. That part along with the 5 note jacks were a little too difficulty spiky for me, which is a shame because I really liked pretty much everything else in the file. Especially tasteful use of mines everyone please learn from this example thanks Honestly I'll probably play it again because I like the song so much but the difficulty spikes probably should have been smoothed out a little.

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm not the best at hearing those sorts of things Thanks for the review! Can't wait to see what you think of my other files! In my opinion, it's probably my worst file in the pack (not saying it's bad, but my other stuff is loads better!).

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
I might be wrong, but I thought foxfire planned to re-upload the pack on SMO with the lyrics problem fixed. This could also be an opportunity to fix the Edit difficulty on The Valedictory Elegy?

Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)
Yeah, having the edit chart moved to oni in a patch would be nice.
Edit: also fix that file with a .sm filename that is longer than 260 characters lmao

It's funny you mention that about Hard Man's theme because I definitely was channeling Zaghurim's stepping style when I approached the creation for that chart, haha. It'd be fun to work with you on some collabs some time since our layering technique is so different.
