[Art - Discussion] Name 10 Most Important Artworks of All-time
Hi all, I'm doing some homework based on the topic. I would like anyone who is able to assist to name me any 10 pieces of artworks that you think are the most significant and or important in preserving and exhibiting for the next exhibition as well as the reason for the selection in comparison with other works. There are no restrictions to the mediums, size, genre, locality, etc. So you can essentially choose the Mona Lisa and The Eiffel Tower in your selection.
Additionally, please provide a simple or detailed reason as to why you have chosen each piece. For example if you chose Mona Lisa, you can give a simple explanation being "The most significant and well-known artwork of all time that also sparked much scientific research after its inception, centuries later." Thanks to all in advance. Edit: Forgot to mention, this is not exclusive to visual artworks but can also include performing arts, music, literature, etc.

Re: [Art - Discussion] Name 10 Most Important Artworks of All-time
I can list a few things here to spark up a discussion.
Seikilos Epitaph It's the oldest recorded piece of music known in a complete form (songs found earlier only survived in fragments). There were also no harmonies back in that time period of Ancient Greece; you'll notice the singing is monophonic. Decrepit Statues in Ancient Greece This isn't one specific piece of artwork, but something fascinating about Ancient Greece statues is that even if the body parts are falling (the head, arms, etc.) the clothes still seem to remain intact over the years. For instance, you could look at this picture and see the arms and head are missing, but the clothes still look perfectly fine on the statue. Colosseum One could argue that this gigantic structure is also an artwork in of itself, especially when you consider back around 2,000 years ago when it was built there wasn't any of the technology we have today for building these kinds of massive structures. One can say it represents the strong will/effort of Greece for instance (even if it required slavery/free labor). Other structures like the Egyptian pyramids could also be taken into consideration here! A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte This artwork is composed entirely of single dots. The effort and patience to make this piece with that much detail is incredible.

Re: [Art - Discussion] Name 10 Most Important Artworks of All-time
I think a better way to approach this is to determine what important means. The first post is vague in that it asks for examples of artworks without a specific focus, so it does give the impression that the OP wants others to do the assignment.
My post was just to spark up some ideas and perhaps give a focus on what important should be defined as. Is there a focus on earliest recorded pieces of artwork? What about artworks giving insight on culture back in that time period?

As much as I would enjoy that, you're mistaken. I'm simply asking for any selection of works that comes to one's mind. There was already a selection of works done in my class and this topic is simply a survey.

I've never thought that any particular piece of contemporary art has ever had much importance. And if this is a "important to the world" assignment, than it's incredibly biased and you'd better hope that your teacher is fair and not opinionated.
Most important artwork? Well, for modern influence and inspiration: The Nutcracker Taking a slow and observant walk in any Temperate or Tropical Rainforests. The Lord of the Rings Kill la Kill
