Otherworldly phenomenon renders FFR unplayable :(
I have an interesting problem.
I've handicapped my Windows 7 (64-bit) to the state of a vegetative coma in order to get maximum performance out of the Flash 10/11 standalone so I can enjoy rates. However, on 60 (or 120) FPS, it feels like I am barely getting 30. Interestingly enough, the instant someone sends me a message on Skype, I am lag-free with crystal clear gameplay for about 3 seconds. Flash Player 9 works just fine. It's as if the Skype notification window completely eliminates my lag. In a controlled lab experiment, I have already successfully synthesized a lag-free environment by having foxfire667 spam the crap out of my Skype. For science. Fixed! Thanks Zageron~ ! Quote:

Re: Otherworldly phenomenon renders FFR unplayable :(
run this .bat that kills explorer.exe while the standalone is playing and starts it up again when the flash player is closed
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe flashplayer_11_sa.exe <--- put the file name here for your standalone C:\windows\explorer.exe save this as something like ffr.bat and double click to make it run. make sure the .bat is in the same folder as the standalone

Have someone send you one message, hover your mouse over the notification; then the notification won't go away. Unless, of course, you open Skype again...

Re: Otherworldly phenomenon renders FFR unplayable :(
That's rather surprising, I have the exact opposite problem. If I receive a message in Skype or AIM it causes horrible lag while the taskbar is flashing. I always have to turn off notifications while playing. Though this is FP 9 using Velocity.

Re: Otherworldly phenomenon renders FFR unplayable :(
came in thread, expected less of OP, and was mildly surprised. This is indeed really god damn strange.
You must tell us what causes it if you ever find out. |

Do you have a laptop, Just make a script or use a tool to send yourself messages on skype via a laptop. It shouldn't be too hard to seen yourself a . every second.
P.S. Skype doesnt always lag my flash player, only occasional and its usually not enough to screw anything up. But if i get a steam message, any good run i had going i can kiss goodbye.

Re: Otherworldly phenomenon renders FFR unplayable :(
This is likely because Skype uses hardware acceleration properly, and flash does not. When Skype is "activated" your video card would turn itself into high power mode to run whatever was necessary for Skype, when the notification is over the video card returns to low power mode.
If you have an NVidia video card, you can find your standalone executable and register it into the profiles area in the NV Control Panel. Reduce the prerendered frame count to 1, and force high performance mode. This may help, it may not. (If you use an Intel Embeded graphics system or an ATI card, I don't know how to force high performance modes. )

In dxdiag, I noticed directx hardware acceleration was enabled by default. So, I downloaded the DirectX Control Panel 9.0c, and unchecked "Use Hardware Acceleration" on the Direct3D and DirectDraw tabs. I have so many frames now, I have no idea what to do with them all |

I'd click on the icon and nothing would happen. I turned the DX options back on and restarted my computer, and ddream still wouldn't open. I tried running it as an administrator, clicked through the full-screen "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS!?!?!?!" pop-up ... and that got the program to open. So, yeah, I have to turn on "Run as Administrator" in ddream's compatibilitiy options now. But also, this means I can't run two instances of ddream anymore. Any full-screen takeover breaks the program. So by trying to open a new window, Windows's security freak-out kills the first instance of ddream ... This just won't do. So, uh ... I guess ... Help, please? I would rather figure out how to get ddream work again without having to run it as an admin than try to make the full-screen security pop-up not activate, because that would be a cure for the symptom, not the disease. P.S. I'm on Windows 7 with DirectX 11. The dX9c tool did work to disable those options for dX11, but uh, whoops. EDIT: Nevermind. I did a system restore to the day before I downloaded the thing, and that erased the problem. But yeah, anyone who uses ddream should be cautious of trying this.
