edit: also stacking Sorc Boots with Void is a bad thing isn't it..
No it's good.
Flat and % penetration complement each other.
% penetration is applied first, then flat. The more you get of both, the closer you are to doing true damage.
The fact they stack this way (% then flat) as opposed to how it did in previous seasons (flat then %) is why penetration is in general a very strong stat this season.
I agree that Deathcap over Void at that point in time would have dealt more damage. Only Pantheon had an MR item of any sort and nobody on the enemy team was yet at the 70-ish MR where getting Void becomes really important.
Also, dependant on how often you were dying to the fed Fizz, Athenes might have made more sense than Morellonomicon for your 20% CDR.
The MR from Athene's can be deceptively powerful on champions like Lux and Orianna because of how resists apply to the shielded damage as well, while the only major healing they have on their team that would require the Morellonomicon passive was Shaco's lifesteal.

the same thing happened to me i was inclined to believe that there were no new people playing this game and that everyone i ever played with was a smurf when i started and that's why i sucked so much when i started playing
Kind of a silly system where people are more inclined to level a smurf which will then have their current skill in MMR, rather than go through the process of raising their main account's MMR to the correct level.
I have a few friends in that same situation, leveling 1-30 rather than bother raising their MMR. Wonder if Riot will do something about the rate MMR changes in Season 4.

because the tier system is trash sc2's tier system was immensely better. if you're good you get put up high no matter what.
the difference between d1 - d5, p1,- p5, g1 - g5, etc., is so fuckin high. since there's no loss between tiers, even if u play once a week and ur absolute shit, you can call yourself d/p/g even if u lose all your games and suck
s1 - > gold 5 is the fucking worst place to be because you hvae trash golds who don't care since they're gold already about losing and they can blame the silvers in their team (when they're shit themselves) and you have the s1's trying to rank up at 1-4 LP each by silver1 like wtf is this game rofl
leveing a smurf is more beneficial because of the immediately high mmr placement u can skip divisions and classes and elo jump from one divisino to another. if u get mistakenly placed in bronze4 (won 2/10 of my placements) and you try to climb your way up it's fucking TIME CONSUMING and aggravating because the system works against u. even with a positive w/l, the mmr system just weighs each game differently (more negative LP if you're purple, less positive LP if you're blue side, vice versa et al.)
edit- and if ur seriously trying to grind up to 30 you can do it in 2.5 days spamming bot 3s and double xp capping
edit2- fuck i didn't so bad yesterday in 3s sorry bros i was running on no sleep
