I'm also not just limiting the gift bags to placing Top 32/16/8, I'll be giving around 6-10 randomly to people who aren't winning one. I might do this by picking people displaying good sportsmanship/encouragement throughout the tourney or I can take a random # generator and pick 1-2 random winners for each division. If I were to do 10 it'd be 7 picked from D4-6 and 3 from D1-3. Also my vote is no extension given the numerous engines and options. |

An extension won't matter if you still have the lag through it.

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
Once you include the 3 engines, 4 flash version (not counting revisions), Windows/Mac/Ubuntu, and an unknown amount of system configs, the entire system starts to get very unnerving. There's just so many possible setups for the same task having every single one of them all run flawlessly is impossible.
Then throw in how old the Legacy engine is, toss on a bunch of code that I wrote when first learning flash coding while working from a decompiled source, and wonder why it lags. Then track the problem down. |

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
Do you have a backup of the Velocity Engine with the Tournament Genre back from the 6th Official?

Standalone is somewhat of a given in the 'majority' of serious play (Though I think Mike Shinoda still uses browser .-.), I think. I've always used standalone because browser play is laggy for myself. With engine choices, I feel like you haven't read any of the previous comments from people about using different engines, and how they usually equal the equivalent of asking someone to write neatly with their left hand (Or opposite hand of choice). If you're an ambidextrous person, then great! But not everyone is, and it's unfair to consider everyone can just switch hands (engines) as easily as you might be able to (lucky ability for you v.v). I can only play Velocity exclusively, and having tried Legacy and R^2 Beta, neither work for me in browser, nor in standalones (both due to being uncomfortable with the engine, as well as lag on all fronts). I understand your stance on this, but your alternatives just don't work for a lot of us. I understand Colt's reasoning behind no extensions though, with gift sendings and stuff, so I'm not going against that ;-; Either way I hope it gets fixed up, because even outside of the tournament, regular playing is becoming sparse with this lag.

I still use the user browser because I can't get the standalone to work on a mac rofl
it's a bit laggy, but you can get it to work. |

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
I'm personally against an extension. I spent a lot of time optimizing on both Windows and Ubuntu, dealing with whatever I could to make the game as playable as possible during the entire second and third round. It's also not fair to those who were able to get a score early on to get trumped by people who got a score past the round's end date. Imagine if you're a person without any lag who nails your score on the third day getting trumped by someone else who might not have lag on the extended eighth (or more) day?
It's unfortunate, but no matter what you do, things get ruined for some group of people. EDIT: Oh hey, this is my 12,000th post. |

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
I want to go against the current here and mention that the Velocity Engine doesn't suddenly eat up 50% or more CPU out of nowhere when it was working fine in the 6th Official.
The one used for my Tournaments uses 20% max, usually only uses around 10%. 20% is when there's the chance of weird lag blips. 50% risks a dropped framerate and note jumping, making play basically undoable. This is why I ask if there's a backup of the Velocity Engine with the Tournament Genre used back in the 6th Official.

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
So, for a last ditch effort I'm going to upload a Velocity Engine build from Jan 29th 2011, it's one of oldest engines I have in backup.
www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/ffr_Wide5.swf If that lags, then it's a flash issue, I've run out of things to cross out off my list. |

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
well, it's visually better, at least. Input lag doesn't look too much different though.

Re: 7th Official FFR Tournament
I'm starting to think the lag is a bug in flash itself just from the sheer volume of loaded data from the playlist, which is over 18k items.
I'll try a engine that just loads in the tournament songs and see if that changes anything. |
