More Classical Music
I feel like the classical genre is really lacking. I'm pretty sure that most of the really old classical music is in the free realm and doesn't require permissions to use. I have a ton of classical music that I could upload somewhere and make a list of if anyone is interested in stepping some classical music for ffr.

Re: More Classical Music
oh hey, this is what I tried to do. Only problem is, 90% of good classical songs that people would enjoy listening to cannot be condensed to 4 keys, it's just a mess. Middle of the difficulty chart could be pretty feasible, though. Maybe over winter break.

Re: More Classical Music
If I can get a classical piece that doesn't have BPM changes every 5 seconds then I will definitely give it a shot. I know of a bunch of pieces I'd love to step but I never knew how well permissions would go :P

Re: More Classical Music
Haha good luck finding a classical song with no bpm changes. Even making a midi with no bpm changes is gay. As far as permissions go you should be fine unless the composer is a recent one

Re: More Classical Music
Those midi versions of old classical music are basically all public domain.
Any original performance by the actual composer of old classical music (Like, if you actually get some Beethoven -by- Beethoven) is basically all public domain. A contemporary performance of old open domain music generally requires permission from the performing group to use their version, but since they are themselves performing public domain music, it's far less likely that we'd get into any kind of trouble using their music. |

Re: More Classical Music
I could convert midi's to mp3's using a nice sound card.

Re: More Classical Music
Obviously you didn't know I have been in an orchestra half my life, so I know a bunch of pieces that don't have BPM changes. The Brandenburg Concertos by Bach is just one of them, and they are fun :3 especially the first movement of the third concerto.

Not what you implied with your first post. But go for it if you have it

Re: More Classical Music
I highly favor this. I'm a big fan of classical songs and would love to see more of them as well. The bpm changes would be hard to step but I'm sure some of the experienced steppers here could overcome that challenge.

Re: More Classical Music
My problem is that I don't have it, I just know of it. I've never been able to get access to good MP3's of them with OMGWTFAWESOME orchestras. Once I get access to good MP3's I'll be on it.

Re: More Classical Music
I really love well-stepped classical files such as "A World of Piano" and "Minute Waltz v2" If it makes you feel like you're playing a piano, it's awesome.

The problem is it's generally hard to get permissions from great classical music performers.

Re: More Classical Music
There is a difference between the sheet with the notes on it having no indicated bpm changes and performers/conductors who are not perfectly consistent throughout an entire piece or who are liberal with their rubato. Even if there are no written tempo changes the performance will likely have 239483724. Rock music is more likely than classical to have a constant bpm, because they're more likely to record with a metronome

Re: More Classical Music
Then the best thing would be a mp3 converted from a midi. The bpm's would be constant because the computer plays it perfectly.

Re: More Classical Music
Yeah, but even if you have a good midi, it will still sound like crap. Rubato is integral in pretty much all classical music, if you eliminate that, it makes supremely lousy music. Static bpm makes my head hurt.
Syncing is not difficult at all, just use ddream. Also, Devonin, the "composer playing his own music" bit won't be applicable for another 20 years or so. Earliest examples of that are Bartok or Rach, and neither of them died until the 40's, so they aren't in public domain yet. If you want some more mid-difficulty files, step some more Mozart/Bach/Beethoven. Bach Solo violin sonatas/partitas would be great for that. Or some Chopin Preludes/Mazurkas/nocturnes. Or Brahms. Or Mendelssohn's songs w/o words. Or any of the HUGE repertoire of Schumann/Schubert lieder. There's also plenty of less-mainstream stuff that would be good to step, but usually recognition=good. I have a tremendous library of classical music at my college, I can get anyone performances of pretty much anything they'd like. Shoot me a PM or IM me. p.s. someone go step ravel, please. Like this song. Maybe not that recording. Last edited by Xandertrax; 12-6-2010 at 02:16 PM.. |
