So far every presidential thread has done this. Putting it in Critical Thinking will just cause a much bigger flame war than could be possible in Chit Chat/TGB. Also I came up with that metaphor. ;_;

Everyone else, I don't think Squeek is abusing his power. He's just doing what he feels is right to do, which is mostly locking threads that he knows will go nowhere and/or are pointless to exist. Also, he's keeping CC or any other forum here free of mindless crap and/or wastes of time, from what I've read.

More seriously, I know I haven't been on the forums for long so I don't have much perspective, but I do find it kind of annoying when a relatively recently created thread about something I might want to talk about is locked. I'm sure that it is common for threads about politics and moral issues to devolve into flaming, but I see that as the fault of the people who start the flames and keep them going rather than the fault of the person who wanted to discuss the topic in the first place. Excepting trolls, people don't create topics about politics/religion because they WANT them to become flamewars. I think you'd see much better discussions if you gave out short bans to the people who ruin discussions, rather than just close the topics of discussions that end up ruined.

This is a bump... but I don't see why you would want another forum...

If we have a "random" forum, we'll have a whole lot of BS threads not getting locked.

By the way, what kind of things show that a thread is about to be locked?
If it gets out of hand or starts some kind of argument break-out?

Im not trying to get into any arguments, I was just wondering. I thought a random thread may help move the random posts from this thread, because I think alot of people (including me, previously, somewhat) don't understand this thread. And mods getting angry and going on ban/lock rampages may help the forum, but it would also lead to many people getting angry who just had misunderstandings. I think that another forum would be a way of helping control crazy threads while keeping people happy.

The reason we don't have a forum for random **** is because we have the chat. If you want to just shoot the breeze with other people and aren't really trying to initiate a discussion on a topic, live chat works a lot better than forums.

Alternately, you could create a PMS account and go participate in the 1 Million Get thread, because there really aren't any rules pertaining to post content there (except for the standard "no illegal ****" rule and such, use common sense)

I've never seen a mod go on a ban/lock spree, and from the way you make it sound, it's like they rage and just ban whoever they want. Not the case.

Trust me, you don't get a ban on this website if you don't deserve it. If your thread gets locked, it's either breaking a rule, or it's an unhealthy cyst of a thread, and mods are removing it.

I don't think another forum would alleviate the problem, because there are always going to be people that don't read the rules, and don't understand that a forum is a place for discussion and content, not 'hey wuts up wats ur fav ice cream' kind of threads.

It has nothing to do with the mods, but much more the uneducated, ignorant forum user.

EDIT: Just to avoid confusion, when I say uneducated and ignorant, I'm referring to their knowledge of the forum rules -- not their actual intelligence.
