Re: Yugioh Players
I used to love Yugioh but then five years or whatever ago they decided to ban half the cards in my deck and that's when I ditched it.
I had a trap based deck and won basically every tournament I went to.

Re: Yugioh Players
I had a bunch of friends who played a long time ago, but I haven't heard much about Yu-Gi-Oh! in quite some time. I'm totally not buying into GX, but the original pre-duelist Yu-Gi-Oh! manga series, back when it didn't revolve around cards, was the s***.

Re: ITT children's card games
Yu-Gi-Oh was like a poorly designed money-grubbing imitation of Magic the Gathering.

Re: ITT children's card games
It was basically a one-upping of Pokemon.
"Hey, there's this anime show kids like and a successful children's card game based off the anime. Why don't we do one better - make an anime show about the children's card game! That way we can directly feature the merchandise we want kids to beg their parents for in the show itself!" |

Re: ITT children's card games
No, Digimon was the first real pokemon rip off that made it somewhat big. Yugi-oh came about because of the pokemon card game.

Re: ITT children's card games
True, but it was pretty brilliant of Yu-Gi-Oh to make their entire anime about the card game.

Re: ITT children's card games
I didn't even know what Yugioh was until I worked as a summer camp counselor in '06 and my 6 year old kids were fighting each other over cards. It was cute, reminded me of the time this kid lost his Revised Vesuvian Doppelganger back in '95 and freaking lost it, accusing everyone of stealing it and hitting random kids.

Re: ITT children's card games
Pfft, nobody cares about losing white-bordered cards. If it was worth keeping, they'd have printed it in an off-core set.

Re: ITT children's card games
Um...as in the company that makes the game and thus runs all the major tournaments and gives out prizes and things, will often ban cards than in retrospect were too powerful.
They want the game to be balanced and fun, and if one combo of cards is so grossly overpowered that every single player basically has to use it or lose every game, it is better for the survivability of the game to simply ban the use of certain cards in tournament play to keep things a little more even. For example, in Magic the gathering, the Vintage format has 12 banned cards and 48 restricted cards (You can normally have up to 4 copies of a card in your deck, you can only have 1 copy of a restricted card) Last edited by devonin; 04-8-2008 at 02:49 PM.. |

In that case, I hope they banned that special edition Pokemon card of Electobuz I got for free when I was going to see Pokemon the movie (the first one).

Re: ITT children's card games
I'll stick with my vintage Pokemon cards thanks... I don't see how Yu-gi-oh was so fun, but whatever floats your boat.

Re: ITT children's card games
We were 10 and the card was worth $25 at the time. $25 might as well have been a million to us.

I think I was the only guy in my street who wanted to actually battle with my Pokemon cards.
