in Stepmania... in the middle of any song, occasionally, and randomly, it will "bouce ahead" if you will. how do i stop that?

That would be the "retarded computer" syndrome. My dad's computer does it too. Try using OpenGL if you're using DirectX or try DirectX if you are using OpenGL.

Impossible. Every computer running Windows has DirectX, and every computer should support OpenGL. StepMania supports both. In the StepMania Tools (under Start --> All Programs --> StepMania --> StepMania Tools) there is an option to change the renderrer. Change it.
