Writing it is half the fun! It's really not as hard as everyone assumes.

The hard part is getting the symbols learned. After that the grammar constructs are so amazingly simple compared to English's analretentive construction that you really just have to glance at it and that's that.
I feel really sorry for Japanese and Chinese that learn English, though. Not only do you have an entirely new character set to learn (the alphabet), but you have grammar constructs to bash your head on.

which is probably why most Japanese/Chinese have trouble speaking good english and thats why so many self-praising jerks make fun of them.

....thank you for saying something I already said.
And it's 'speaking English well', not 'good english'

I have studied Japanese for 4 years. plan to learn more languages though. I know both Hiragana and Katakana and I know a significient amount of Kanji. Kanji seems to be the hardest for me, but I learned most of my Kanji from my phone. (yeah, I bought a phone from Japan, and I know it doesn't work here, but at least I got a cool phone!!!) I can take pics and stuff with it, but I can call anyone.
How long have you been studying Japanese Laharl?

Kanji is tough at first, yeah. I'm getting the hang of it, though. Once you figure out the radicals, it's just a matter of being able to remember how you make whatever specific kanji it is. (You can think of what individual radicals make it up. It does help.)

You do not want to read something that's pure Kana.
Trust me on this. You'll spend more time deciding between ambiguous meanings than you ever would just looking up Kanji.

Well, for example, if you just saw, say, the verb kaeru in Kana, there could be about a half dozen verbs it could possibly be (that I know of and I'm only in my second year). It would depend on verb type and everything what it could possibly mean. You'd have to go into context and implications and sentance voice...you could probably get the answer eventually, but it would be a real pain.
However, if you just saw a kanji that represented the idea 'to come', you know immediately what the verb means and you can get on with your life.

About my sig:
There is a translation for it up at GameFAQs. It's the one written by "EChang", I think. It's what Ky says to Vemon upon a win. And I'm too lazy to go look it back up. As TC was saying: The "te" form of both "iku" (to go) and "iu" (to say) are "itte". Now, if oyu don't have the Kanji present, it's up to you to figure out which verb is used. In that case it's a little easier to figure it out seeing as the verbs are so different, but this is not an isolated case.
