I think the way I stated is more effective at preventing bad outcomes, and it's a heavy compromise. There's a bigger issue beyond the feelings of the individual, and there's a lot to take into account when addressing people. The way I handle it is that if you're kind enough to talk to me, and tell me what you prefer, I'll go with it. I'm not going to ask because that's as tacky and rude as asking a woman if she's pregnant. I will however thank you for telling me, and try my best to call you as you please. Anyways thanks DRG for answering, it's always a fun conversation to see where people stand on this, because even if I disagree it's at least a good way to balance my opinion and sometimes change it.
