Supplementing Charu's post, let's take the snippet from the Public Judgment System Thread which is shown in the spoiler below.
REVIEWING PROCESS
Community members are free to leave reviews on any sets they choose. When leaving reviews for the files please keep these guidelines in mind:
• Remember to view the links to the stepchart images! Just playing on the engine makes reviewing a file difficult, so please do not overlook this addition as it can enhance your review.
• Place your comments in the appropriate thread. All currently active sets from the regular batches can be found in the Active Sets subforum.
• Leave comments on all files in the set you choose to look at. Don't go through sets only picking certain files. The exception is if one of the files happens to be yours, in which case you must mention this to staff.
• Do not be rude to simfile authors in your comments. If you find something you dislike, explain why and provide constructive criticism. Comments such as "this file sucks" will not be tolerated in addition to one-liners. In general, each file review should be at least two sentences if there is criticism.
Once the community has left some feedback on a set (generally at least 5 different users), a primary judge will look at the feedback from the community and look at the set themselves. They will then decide the status of the files within the set. This will prevent any favoritism or people pushing files into game that don't really belong. In addition:
• Stepauthors will not be included on files in the public engine. It is your responsibility to mention to the staff which file is yours in a set.
• The Primary Judge will be mentioned in the first post of the set threads to indicate who will be looking over the specific set in question.
• If a set does not receive enough community feedback then it must have two Primary Judges review it before it can be Accepted.
Once a set is completed it will be moved from the Active Sets subforum to the Completed Sets subforum. A set is completed when the Primary Judge decides the status of all the files in a specific set. When this happens, the final results and primary judge notes will go to the corresponding thread for the set in the Completed Sets subforum.
Reading these threads is also important as it shows how the public judgment process works. Think of how you'd put together a rough draft. Judges themselves have "rough drafts" of their reviews before having the final version of the review posted up. For users, it's the same thing -- like Charu mentioned, put down your thoughts after playing the file. This public system is structured in a way that your voice will be heard.
These resources are not meant to make things more difficult for users. Users are welcome to ask questions and are encouraged to be interactive. This shouldn't be treated like Facebook where people go on ranting about political issues for hours with nothing productive coming out. You all have a voice.

I would but I only play Stepmania these days and am not too interested in judging files for a game I don't even play...

Just nitpicking here but I feel like the slew of new threads regarding different Judgment Systems for different batches and different Judgment Systems for different reviewer titles in those same batches with the added thread for the new website that's being used for the Batch Search Engine is a bit overwhelming for me and I am kind of lost on what I should be up to date on, what I shouldn't pay attention to, and what I am/am not allowed to do.
I still don't even know the purpose of why stepartists were given backend access to the Batch Search Engine website besides being able to update it instantly when they submit something to batch. Like, is there any other purpose other than that? Again, it's overwhelming and confusing if you're new to the whole thing, given the amount that's been changed. Would appreciate tl;dr's of which threads apply to which people at the beginning of said threads so I don't need to read through 10,000 words of guidelines.
(No offense Dossar you're doing a really good job with it, it's just all very confusing for someone that's never really been involved in it. That being said, the more confusing it is for people who have never been involved before or generally do not know how batch works, the less likely you're going to have random community members contributing to it if it doesn't directly involve them. And since only a small snippet of people are directly involved with batch, yeah.)

its not like I'm saying that all the work that was done for this is for nothing and that it isn't great work, it is. its just that you cant expect to replace a pen converter in a fountain pen and expect the pen to write if the bottle of ink you're trying to use is dry.

On the threads topic: I was interested when it first came out but I personally feel my words won't influence any sort of motion towards the effort of judgement, and I'm not real confident in my stepping judgement capabilities as I am with difficulty ratings.
imo, it would help to have stepping experience to know certain terminology and to already have a base knowledge of what to expect or aspects of a chart to help its growth.
the thing is you don't have to know anything to know if you like a file or not. community opinion is entirely subjective and that's the point of getting an entire community's input and not just a few. This system only works if there are a lot of people from the community involved. participating matters more than you think

There's finally a chance for player voices to be heard and people are just like I don't know how to, or like you with this now. It's not about being the best judge it's about providing your opinions, sharing what you like and dislike about the charts that may get into game. Something you might say may resonate with the stepper of the chart. You wont know unless you give it a try.
People have wanted more community involvement in things around this site for a long time, here we are giving it to everyone. Yet it seems like now that it's available everyone has a negative view.

Well, they created a framework where the community can get involved to help judging.
That's good news.
If you wanted a chance to get involved in some way with FFR, this should be it.
I don't think there's any point to discuss about what didn't happen in the past.
No one can control who's active and who's not, therefore there's no point to worry about that either.
The replies on this thread are leaving me confused, you guys at least deserve praise for your efforts.
I'll say it I guess if no one else does, nice work. \o
If my response had a negative connotation to it, I apologize; it is more of a confidence issue to me personally.
Like I stated in the FPP of this new system, I love the fact the community has a say in potential charts added to the game and it's extremely interactive with a major aspect of the game, but I'm not sure if I can put in words the exact feelings as someone coming into the system.
