In researching the permission of Deja & Bon for Wheelpower & Go, I currently do not have any answers to this yet. I've had a conversation with Prawnskunk a few months ago on the subject:
[27/10/2015 9:07:15 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: hey Brenton!
[27/10/2015 9:07:30 PM] Brenton: hey I have a question on a song for permission
[27/10/2015 9:07:54 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: shoot
[27/10/2015 9:07:58 PM] Brenton: I was going through songs for making genres, and I noticed one song called Wheelpower & Go. Silvuh told me Darkztar stepped it for your stepcon contest.
[27/10/2015 9:08:29 PM] Brenton: Wheelpower & Go is a super eurobeat song and I know Ghakimx tried to get permission for the artists who do super eurobeat music years ago but ultimately was denied
[27/10/2015 9:08:33 PM] Brenton: is there a permission I'm unaware of?
[27/10/2015 9:08:39 PM] Brenton: this song's also on Initial D soundtrack
[27/10/2015 9:08:50 PM] Brenton: if so that's great, but yeah I want to know
[27/10/2015 9:10:00 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: Oh I have to look into that, I don't have my skype logs when xiz and I were picking songs.
[27/10/2015 9:10:12 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: Reason tells me I wouldn't have picked it if we didn't have artist permission
[27/10/2015 9:12:04 PM] Brenton: yeah, so it's probably just me missing out
[27/10/2015 9:12:24 PM | Edited 9:12:28 PM] Brenton: oh the artist is
[27/10/2015 9:12:33 PM] Brenton: Dejo & Bon
[27/10/2015 9:12:37 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: yup
[27/10/2015 9:13:33 PM] Brenton: I'd be ecstatic if we got permission from one of the super eurobeat artists, so if your instincts on picking songs we have permission from is correct, then I must've missed a permission get somewhere
[27/10/2015 9:13:45 PM] Brenton: that or...we don't have perm.
[27/10/2015 9:14:19 PM] Brenton: and Darkztar is probably competent enough to know which artists can be used or not
[27/10/2015 9:14:24 PM] Brenton: so I have faith in that
[27/10/2015 9:14:48 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: This is gonna bug me. If we really don't have perm I'm going to feel awful.
[27/10/2015 9:15:03 PM] Max | PrawnSkunk: Because that was also a promised prize.
[27/10/2015 9:15:12 PM] Brenton: oh dear!
[27/10/2015 9:15:16 PM] Brenton: well I'm going to search a bit myself
[27/10/2015 9:15:28 PM] Brenton: will check ffr and emails to see if I can find anything on this song and artist
[27/10/2015 9:17:40 PM] Brenton: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...er#post4230635
angry hi19 post from a while back but he mentions the song and I know he's very up to date on permission things, so maybe we do have permission somewhere? will still look around
[27/10/2015 9:18:30 PM] Brenton: stepcon thread has a lot of mentions on the song, but nothing in regards to permission because I guess it's presumed to have gone through fine
[27/10/2015 9:18:54 PM] Brenton: ok yeah that's all I found
[27/10/2015 9:19:01 PM] Brenton: earliest mention is Xiz presenting the stepcon songs
[27/10/2015 9:19:12 PM] Brenton: so I guess you'll have to dig through convos with Xiz
[27/10/2015 9:22:32 PM] Brenton: quite possible the artist permission is on a label, but not explicitly a permission we got from said artist

At the time I decided to send it in I had made an assumption that we had permission because of the prizing in the stepcon. I mean after all, since first prize in the stepcon meant that the winner got to pick a file to go directly in game, I had assumed we had permission for all of the songs used during the stepcon. In hindsight I should have double checked or further inquired about the permission (since I wasn't entirely sure about it myself, couldn't find anything relating to it in the permissions thread), but considering that mn also submitted a file for wheelpower & go to the batch, I figure other people assumed that the use of the song in the stepcon meant we had permission to submit it to the general batch as well.
Edit: ofc if permission does end up being denied by all means remove it from the game, and I apologize for the lapse in judgement regarding submitting a file when I was unsure about its song artist's permission.
I actually asked a while back about the Reol permission because Reol is super fun to listen to, and if we had blanket for that I'd chart the shit out of her new album.
(Which if you like Reol, but haven't heard it, it's amazing.)
Edit: Guess I should clarify: I never was told what the extent of the permission was
Good job to OP for organizing all this. And hot damn, I remember when we had only a handfull of folks making music. FFR has come a a ways.
Just one thing: as proud as I am to have been apart of all this at one point, I'm not very active anymore so please don't PM for MP3s. Besides, I no longer have Yaeger and I haven't spoken to Sherry Kim in years.
...speakinh of whom, did we ever manage to get her in game?
mini update in terms of the Wheelpower & Go situation
Sinclairstyle got back to me today:
looks like the next step is to contact avex.
they cc'd in the guy at avex so I will contact him later and see what happens.
Please email the avex guy and use your own words. There's a lesser chance of acceptance if you let the person at Sinclairstyle ask on your behalf. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'm definitely hoping we can garner approval.
That reminds me, I asked Pronskunk about it a while back, and he never got back to me on it because of IRL stuff.
Anyone know what the deal with the Kradness / Reol permission is?
Because their cover of "Children's War" was used in the stepcon, which means we probably have permission from them to an extent, just curious what it is.
Because Reol put out an album, and nothing would get me charting faster than being able to do songs off it. (Side note: It's really good.)
Though, maybe I should check with the company it was released through as well :/
/just when you have spare time please and thanks in advance
update number 2
turns out I was a bit silly and forgot to send the email to the guy at avex, however he sent one to me this morning
worth noting the phrase 'amount being offered' which could be an issue.
Unless people are willing to donate money for basically accessing a label (which is quite possible), then this otherwise means no. Perhaps the next step is to ask how much and then ask the community if such a goal (whatever that amount is) is feasible. Need more info basically...don't call it quits just yet though.
