Clearly not. It's distasteful, sure, but nobody would say people who download publicly available videos of murders deserve to spend a decade in jail.

By "child" do they mean like... under the age of consent? Just saying, because 10 years for some 17 year old nudity is ridiculous, imo lol

I would consider anywhere 16 and under to be CP, and I agree, it should be handled the way it has been; You basically get the rest of your life in a room to yourself, or maybe a good butt friend, and you can pray that you can understand what you did was extremely unacceptable lol

Are there any realistic or useful studies behind the psychological development of this? Or do they just lock these people up and hope the pedo-gene rots away? The guy in that one video getting sentenced made himself look like he was getting sent to timeout like a kid himself.

What pedo-gene? It is just human nature to be attracted to young girls in development. Whether or not you suppress your human nature to appeal to what is socially acceptable these days is a different matter.

That doesn't say there's a market, it's just a definition of the word. Most sources I've seen agree that snuff films are pretty much just an urban legend.

I honestly don't know how much therapy would help people who act upon their pedophilia. Altering one's sexual tastes has been tried many times with homosexuals without much success, asaik. One could give drugs to suppress the perpetrator's sex drive, (or be like what my mom suggests for repeat sex offenders, castration). Alternatively one could ignore the sex drive completely and try to hammer in some basic morals, just don't do it no matter how good it feels, but even if that were to work we'd end up with people like this step-cousin who just collects the stuff. Which is apparently enough for a 10 year sentence.

Louis Theroux did a documentary on stuff within this category called A Place For Pedophiles

From what I recollect, the facility in the video is more or less effectively a holding bay for pedophiles. It's a mental health oriented facility and is generally used in lieu of or following a stint in prison. Within it are various therapeutic methods, such as group sessions, one on one counselling sessions, medications, behavioural therapy, and there is one guy in the doc who undergoes castration in hopes of eventually returning to a normal life.

I'm pretty sure nobody (or just the castration guy) ever leaves after they're in the facility as they are generally determined to be unsafe people to be released into society.

It's really strange and I don't feel like it even benefits the tenants. It definitely doesn't benefit the tax payers or the people stuck working there. I suppose it's at least a nicer offset to prison, but I feel like this kinda thing has a long way to go before it's worthwhile.
