if you think this is a quality thread you should go read (if you haven't already) https://www.flashflashrevolution.com...d.php?t=133352 aka I'm An Impulsive Idiot That Doesn't Think About The Consequences Of My ActionsComment

Re: My thoughts on the Rate Option
if that's what this is then it's in the completely wrong place still. better to put it in the suggestions forum than QQ about trivialities. OP brought this upon himself with the wording of his post.Comment

Re: My thoughts on the Rate Option
Having players locked in the same rate (assuming above 1.0, because if people can win matches currently with rates below 1.0 that is just lol) would just bring it back to where it was before. "I want to play this easy file", "I'll play, but it will only be fun on 1.5 for me", "I can't play this on 1.5 it would be too hard", "guess we can't play then because it won't be fun for either of us".
So basically it goes back to restricting players from playing with eachother (assuming they want to play files around their skill range, which most usually do). MP is already usually dead, so it needs any life support it can get really.Comment

Re: My thoughts on the Rate Option
Well, there is one valid point the OP made. If two people play in different rates, then one will surely finish before the other. And if it's a very long song that is being played, it is possible for one person to finish several minutes before the other person which may ruin the MP experience for some.
I haven't played MP in ages, but if I recall, you can see your opponent's PA as you're playing the song iirc? If that's the case, then the issue that rates have is that one person will be progressing through the song at a faster rate, so comparing your pa with the other person's as you are playing the song is somewhat worthless because you are comparing PA at two different points in the chart.
However, the whole "waaaaaaaah, my opponent is playing on rates AND beating my score and it's hurting my ego" argument holds no ground. Unless you are the best person, there is going to be someone better than you.Last edited by benguino; 11-23-2013, 12:05 PM.AMA: http://ask.fm/benguino

Re: My thoughts on the Rate Option
After reading foxfire's post, I think the arguments against having locked-in rates have more ground than the arguments for it. I was just trying to qualify the other position...you guys are quick to bash any position that isn't yours and assume your opponent is retarded.AMA: http://ask.fm/benguino
