Dominion is good practice for unconventional lane matchups. You can learn a lot about 1v1s if you go bot- who your champ can and cannot duel early on- and general teamfights if you go top for the initial 4v4 for windmill. Most Dominion games follow that 1 bot 4 top strategy and it's nice to learn your champ's positioning.
What it doesn't teach is the intricacies of Summoner's Rift 5v5s (such as warding and objective control) but you will learn that in time if you want to.

that was literally the best and worst game I was ever in
i got cancer, he got a penta and uh we won somehow even though i was 4 levels behind due to internet cutting out and in between 2 and 17 mins in.
hilarious autopathing into enemies because? check.
characters sliding on screen like MJ while I scream wtf is going on at sam? check.
teammates getting mad thinking im trolling? check.
