I don't want to speak on behalf of Jae nor do I think I'm in any position to, but I'm under the impression that songs in this tourney will be a few notches higher in difficulty each round for most divisions compared to tourneys in the past.

This isn't the biggest issue though, we basically went from a 60 last round to a 68. (I know the current numbers don't reflect that, but I'm pretty sure the consensus with everyone is that last round is a 60 and that this is more in the 68, and some people even feeling it's higher, range)

In all honesty, Yellow Leaves/Addict should've been released in reverse order, and Addict should probably be a 62. Had that been the case, the jump wouldn't've appeared to be as bad. My vote's still for 66/67, some of you might say 68, but yeah, switching the order of those first two rounds definitely would've alleviated that feeling of a big bump.

And hey, there's been a few huge kicks up during Officials in the past. 0 (piano vers) --> Halcyon last tourney, BT37 --> Holy Orders in 4th Official, D1-D4 round 9 --> their finals in the 5th (8bit Tour, Mephisto, RWoB, WWE respectively...yeah, final rounds are supposed to get a bigger bump but lmfao 8bit Tour for D1 final, good joke). I apologize for a potential 5/6 point bump here but there's been worse before :/

Halcyon was switched in when everyone in the division complained about the progression. That was not the song that was in line after 0 originally. (Just wanted to note that because I'd never normally do a jump like that, but everyone thought that the charts were too easy.)

Also, yeah -- the issue with our progression was that there were tons of file fixes sent to us at the last second. Gotta make do with what you have!

Okay, then Champion Freeverse --> Finder was a pretty huge jump (which could've been fixed had Champion Freeverse/Fall Silently been released in reverse order as well, same scenario here). I'm not trying to harp on you as a tourney director by tossing another example out (I think you did a really good job), just trying to say that these things have happened in every tourney thus far. It's just easier for players to quantify that gap now that the 1-99 scale is out.

edit: now that I saw AJ's post, there's another thing I'd like to point out. I think some players are under the impression that there's a massive queue of files with five songs of each difficulty 1-99 at the moment. Spoiler: there isn't. I can honestly say that The Replicator was probably the best song to bridge the ex-VC/FMO gap given what was available.

Fall Silently -> Velocity -> Finder (D4)

When that came about, we were torn as to where Velocity should go, haha. We didn't expect the cutoff to be so goddamn steep (only 1g!?). And yeah, I agree that it's a lot easier/more noticeable when a file has even a minor step up in difficulty because of the new scaling.

Also, jeez at The Replicator being the best/closest choice - eek. Sounds like you were given a bad hand for this round (kinda like how we were when we had to go from Indo to Pandora in D5).

Velocity* and it's still a debatable argument objectively on the files (Still don't know how a faster jumpstreamish file was being considered a 9 at the time). Finder is no where near FMO level at all where as this file is pushing it. Sambista was our borderline VC/FMO round which was after finder. No matter how it's broken down and looked at, this file is way more of a difficulty jump than those were.

D4 next round is around the same difficulty as what everyone thinks The Replicator is, but it's considerably spikier in its difficulty (it's not Press Start v2, don't freak out lmao). Given that, some of D4 will find it easier, and some will find it more difficult.

But yeah man, it was the best choice and I'm standing by that haha

If the file choices were so limited then maybe there should have been another batch for the tournament to pull more stuff in. We did it last year.

Does anyone still find the velocity engine too laggy to use? Standalone is no good, and neither is in-browser. Should I expect a fix or should I start getting used to legacy?

What worked for me might not work for you, but I just switched to Flash 11 for the moment for the Velocity engine. I still get occasional hiccups, but it's a lot better with whatever is going on while using Flash 9.

I tried playing a whole day with Legacy and I share you pain. It's just... cramped I guess.

Velocity is still completely unplayable for me atm, which sucks ass because that's what I normally use ~_~
