it's ok aku at least has something to do with samurais which has something to do with power rangers.

But as Kayla (a D4 competitor *looks at Findarian*) clearly said, adopting the theme of a currently on-going theme on FFR would be lame, which is why Mortal Kombat was selected. If you keep the pony avatar it's fine, but you won't be recognized as a D4 competitor in the official because of it. You'll just be another member of the "I jumped on the MLP avatar bandwagon" crowd.
