I cannot believe you're asking that question.. I truly hope you're just trolling, but if not, it is because Spain colonized South America back in the day.. And Spain's language is 'Spanish'
So it is only natural that most south Americans speak Spanish.. Not 'Mexican' 'Argentinean' 'Guatemalan' .. Etc.


It would be the same thing if, say.. Japan colonized Mexico, taught everyone how to speak Japanese, everyone speaks Japanese, so they'd be speaking JAPANESE, Not 'Mexican' because Mexico didn't create their own language..
