Default 8th grade Art Projects

Ok, I finally decided to take pictures of my projects from last year, my final year in middle school.

First: 8th Grade Final Pot Project - This was the final huge project for the year, and it took so very long. It was also very stressful, especially because the pots had to be large, and made by hand. I really love how it turned out because I thought the bottom would give way and it would just fall to pieces, but it didn't. The lid was the easiest thing to make. I think I did a pretty good job with my first large project with clay, because I normally don't like to work with clay. It was originally supposed to be 12" inches in height, however, mine measures around 17" in height and 15" in length.

Second: Cat Eye Project - The idea was to take in image of an animal, and draw thumbnails of it's eye in great detail. It could be any animal, as long as the eye was detailed and everything. I chose a house cat for my eye. The twist in this however, was that we had to color the fur and the pupil in different colors other than what was in the original photograph. I chose orange, red, peach, yellow, and gold. It turned out pretty nice, and I enjoyed it because of the pastels. I absolutley love working with pastels.

Third: Modern Rapunzel Project - This time, we had to choose a fairytale or folktale.. any one.. and make a book cover for it. However, we had to do it with a modern twist. I think mine is pretty self explanatory. I chose the story Rapunzel and did whatever I thought was trendy for me at the time. Oh yes, and the media I used was pastels, sharpie, and paint.

Fourth: Self Potrait Project - This was the very first project we did in eigth grade. Our teacher surprised us with a self potrait project, but it had to be done in a certain way. First of all, she made us take pictures of ourselves and then draw on an entire page in our sketchbooks of that picture we took. Later, we would re-draw ourselves, except in the style of an artist (who's name I don't remember) and that's why it looks all distorted and non-realistic. Done with pencil, then painted with tempera. I find this project hilarious however, everytime I look at it, due to the fact that a boy in my class at the time proposed to marry it. xD

Fifth: Fruit Basket (UNFINISHED) - My first attempt at oil painting. I think it's turning out pretty odd so far, and I've been working on and off on it for about a year now, when I have time, which is almost never. I could fix a lot more things, and I'm really not sure when I'll finish this.
