Just a question about faster songs.

Is there some kind of secret to reading the faster steps on songs like force of light? do you see them in patterns or do you see each individual step?

I'm stuck in a rut in my FFR ability, and the songs here don't help much either. They're either easy, or way too difficult to pass without mashing.
Any hints/secrets/practice tips etc would be greatly appreciated.
