Well I did a bit of studying on the subject, not so much about lucid dreaming, but about dreams themselves. If you find yourself having nightmares constantly, you might not be able to figure out how to stop it. But tests have actually shown that you are much MUCH more likely to have a nightmare if you are sleeping in a cold room. So first thing to check is whether or not you are warm when you go to sleep. Also, if you related to something that goes far back, and eventually leads to many other events, you may find that you dream of something, and then that eventually links to something else, making it seem incredibly realistic.
My own dreams actually tend to scare me sometimes, because they are... well.... TOO real. I had a dream that a bunch of people came to our house and started setting off bombs outside our house, and each one gave off a deafening sound. I had this dream for an incredible amount of time, and it felt incredibly real. The thing that scared me the most was that when I woke up, my ears were ringing. I didn't listen to any loud music, or anything loud at all for that matter. Very Strange.....
