hrmm.. i'm doing a project on the Meech Lake Accord for a school essay..
for some background information.. in case people want to brush up.. Quebec wants to sepperate from canada because it feels like it's needs didn't get met during the signing of the canadian constitution. to make quebec happy (or possibly to stop it from bitching as much, ) the premier decided to put to gether the "meech lake accord" so that the seperatist movement in quebec would be lessened. the meech lake accord was basically a treaty saying that canada recognizes (and gives special rights ) to quebec. so... everything seems fine and dandy right? wrong... quebec didn't sign the clause. why? some people think the the seperatist movement was too supported through out quebec , but also many small groups such as natives, and woman's rights groups dissaproved of it also.. becuse it gave only quebec special rights. so... the big essay questions is... "why did the meech lake accord fail?" what do you guyz think? also.. as a bonus question.. lol.. what are your veiws on quebec? do you suport the seperatists? or what?
