Talking O.W.L. 2 Multiplayer Tournament

Welcome to the OWL 2 Multiplayer Tournament!

Hello fiffer-friends! I am pleased to announce the second iteration of the OWL multiplayer series here in the year of our Synthlight, 2024! Everyone's favorite owl went to the trouble of overhauling multiplayer and gosh darn it, we're going to use it!

Sign-ups:

All FFR community members in good standing may participate in the tournament, provided they meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

-If you play another similar rhythm game (eg. Etterna, Osu!Mania, Quaver, etc.), you must provide links to your profiles on those games. This will help us place you in a skill bracket. If you aren't sure about whether or not another game is relevant, link it or mention it anyway. Failure to do this may result in disqualification.

-If you only play FFR, you must have 250 games played, with 75 unique songs FULLY played.

CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE SIGNUP FORM.

Signups are open until November 1st, 12:00AM, 2024 Server Time.

Format:

The tournament will be a seeded double-elimination bracket split into several groups based on performance in the qualifier stage and staff review.

Matches in each bracket will be played as BO5, with the exclusion of Round 1 being BO3. Players will have up to 1 week to schedule a time for their match and up to 2 weeks to play out their match. If no time can be agreed upon within the scheduling window, a ref will intervene and schedule a time for the match. Failure to arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time will result in a loss. Players will get up to 3 false starts per match, which can be used within the first 10 seconds of a file. Simply quit out and a do-over will be held. If you quit out more than 3 times or after the 10 second grace period, it will be treated as forfeiting that song to the other player.

Songs played in each match will be chosen from a pre-determined pool of files. Song picking will use the following format:

7 total songs in pool, 1 ban each.

Player 1 picks 4 songs and DMs the list to the Ref
Player 2 picks 4 songs and DMs the list to the Ref

Song 1 - Random song shared between both lists will be picked for the first song.

Song 2 - Winner of Song 1 bans a song from the remaining pool of files, Loser picks a song from the remaining 5 options.

Song 3 - Tie game. Winner of Song 2 bans a song from the remaining pool of files, Loser picks a song from remaining options.

9 total songs in pool, 1 ban each.

Player 1 picks 5 songs and DMs the list to the Ref
Player 2 picks 5 songs and DMs the list to the Ref

Song 1 - Random song shared between both lists will be picked for the first song.

Song 2 - Winner of Song 1 bans a song from the remaining pool of files, Loser picks a song from the remaining 7 options.

Song 3 - Winner of Song 2 bans a song from the remaining pool of files (if first chance to ban), Loser picks a song from remaining options.

Song 4 - Winner of Song 3 bans a song from the remaining pool of files (if first chance to ban), Loser picks a song from remaining options.

Song 5 - Loser of Song 4 picks a song from remaining options.

Qualifiers:

At the conclusion of the sign-up period there will be a Qualifier stage. Qualifiers will involve all participants playing through a series of 5 songs over the course of a week to set the best scores they can. Failure to complete the qualifiers will result in disqualification from the tournament. PLAYERS WITH THE LOWEST PERFORMANCE MAY NOT BE PLACED INTO A BRACKET.

Scheduling:

A forum thread will be provided here for scheduling your matches at the conclusion of the Qualifier stage. You may coordinate in the Discord server if you wish, however to officially confirm a match time it must be stated in the scheduling thread. As stated above, you will have 1 week per round to schedule a match and 2 weeks total to play the match. Finals matches that are being streamed will have stricter scheduling requirements and must be coordinated with Lights or EppuJoloZ.

Prizing:

Prizes for each bracket are as follows:

1st - 200,000 credits and 2 Event Credits
2nd - 150,000 credits and 1 Event Credits
3rd - 100,000 credits and 1 Event Credit
Top 8 - 25,000 credits
